[TBA]: Disk Space

We're running low on disk space. I am going to call HostRocket tomorrow to inquire about turning our RAID 1 into a RAID 0 to double our storage. Ultimately though, we're going to need fatter disks.

For now, we're at about 85% disk capacity, with 18 free gigs. A single event is usually about 3 or so gigs. I have deleted a lot of the "downloadable" versions of videos from 2006 and 2007 to free up space for the FLVs and downloadable 2008 videos. I have the full quality 2006/7 locally on my portable hard drive, I just don't have space for them online.

Is anyone sitting on a large amount of disk space that would be willing to help mirror TBA video files with? Even just having a second location so they don't get lost if my external hard drive fails would be awesome.

I am willing to help
500gb storage and 3500gb bandwidth.

Re: [TBA]: Disk Space

I could offer up about 200-250 Gb of storage space as well (with a few terabytes of monthly bandwidth) at www.arthurdutra.com.

Edit: I can also host a lot more as offline backups; right now I have over 2 Tb of hard drives shared between my laptop and my home desktop computer, with another terabyte or two not that far away (next few months).

Re: [TBA]: Disk Space

For others: RAID 0 would mean that a loss of one disk means no data can be accessed (It isn't lost, but good luck recovering it). I have lost all faith in all storage mediums, especially hard drives, as a result I keep everything backed up in at least two if not three different physical locations on multiple media.

User Mike AA claims to have a large video server: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=15
I would send off a PM to him.

Could I donate a physical HD to TBA? I don't know if you guys host locally, or outsource your servers.

I'm sure another 200-500 gigs of permanent storage could do you guys some good :D

Steve: In Raid_0 the zero stands for how many files you are going to get back if something goes wrong.

Ditto: Would some HDDs of suitable size help?

I can offer offline storage, but I just don't the bandwidth to offer to be a mirror.

Is this the issue holding back the Newton videos?

No, SOAP hasn't posted them.

We got our disks RAID 0'ed, and have redundant backups of the site and videos in several locations. I think we're going to be good on disk space for the next two years or so. We'll future proof to make sure the next transition goes smoothly.

Thanks everyone!

Greg, is there anything the FIRST community can do to help? (for example can we pitch in to get you guys back on raid1 with the current disk space?)
