Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
I had a hoot last year competing as (pick one: 1618/2458/4076). I don't know whether 1618 (or the robot thereof) will make the return trip to North Brunswick for another round of flying brick action, but I encourage those of you who are less than 684 miles away to give it a go!

Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
BE 7 Update-
Right now we have 33 teams signed up for BE 7 on November 1 and we still have room for a few more. All the teams listed below have been sent invoices and we are receiving registrations and confirmations daily. We request all attending teams settle up by October 1 and /or contact me if their attendance status changes. We know a few will not make it. A few e-mails have been kicking back. This event will be one of the craziest off season events ever. The day will include: 1. the FRC Tournament- FIRST Overdrive with a few widely accepted rules modifications to make the game less penalty prone and more fun. 2. FTC exhibition games- promotion of the upcoming NJ seasonal events and Snow Day Showdown tourney 3. Guitar-Hero Tournament- sign up for your slot in the morning, 5 games running- all day- high score winner announced at closing ceremonies. Bring your favorite game guitar too. We already have 65 definite and 154 unconfirmed competitors. 4. Evil Sundaes Contest- this was a smash hit last year. So we have come up with even more "evil" ideas for this years contest. Every team puts up a Champion. Every team may take home the tiki. Bring your own championship spoon. We supply the barf bag. 5. Big prize raffle- one prize, something neat- something valuable Once again we are only able to hold BE 7 through the generous support of NASA and Rob Thate with the NASA field As in the past we will hold our 50/50 to benefit the Mike Wade Memorial Scholarship Fund. The teams on the list so far 11 MORT Flanders, NJ 25 Raider Robotix North Brunswick, NJ 56 Robbe Extreme Bound Brook, NJ 75 Roboraiders Hillsborough, NJ 87 RVR Mt. Holly, NJ 136 Killer Kardinals Plainfield, NJ 222 Tigertrons Tunkhannock, Pa 271 Mechanical Marauders Bayshore, NY 293 Spike Hopewell, NJ 296 Northern Knights Montreal, Can. 303 Panther Robotics Bridgewater, NJ 357 Royal Assault Upper Darby, Pa 358 Robotic Eagles Hauppage, NY 369 Nuts'n' Volts(RoboBob 2.0) Grady Tech HS, Brooklyn, NY 371 Cyber Warriors Staten Island, NY 555 Montclair Robotics Montclair, NJ 816 BCIT-Westech Westhampton, NJ 869 Power Cord Middlesex, NJ 1048 Mustang Robotics Manville, NJ 1075 Sinclair Sprockets Whitby, ON, Canada 1089 Team Mercury Hightstown, NJ 1279 Cold Fusion Immaculata HS, Somerville, NJ 1302 Team Revolution Pope John XXIII HS, Sparta, NJ 1403 Cougar Robotics Montgomery, NJ 1676 Pascack Pi-oneers Montville, NJ 1807 Red Bird Robotics Allentown, NJ 1862 Red Raiders Cliffside Park, NJ 1923 The MidKnight Inventors Plainsboro, NJ 2016 Mighty Monkey Wrenches Ewing, NJ 2180 Zero Gravity Steinert HS, Hamilton, NJ 2554 The War Hawks JP Stevens HS, Edison, NJ 2590 Nemesis Robbinsville, NJ 2596 Ferrous Bulldog Inovators Ferris HS, Jersey City, NJ 3000 Smash and Grab-prerookie Ben Franklin HS, Philadelphia, Pa If your team wishes to participate in the fun please register NOW through our website at http://be.raiderrobotix.org/ We plan to have a great day- come out and have fun with us.... Oh- BTW- if you happen to be in North Brunswick on Sept 27th why not come to our school for the first Raider Robotix Strong Man Competition. Strong men and women from across the region will compete to see who can lift the most, move the huge masses and vie for muscle supremacy. (I only hope the student reset crew can handle this!!!) Another bizarre fund raiser from Raider Robotix..... WC  |

Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
The BE7 signup list has reached 40 and we are preparing to close registrations. If you are seriously considering you should register now. I anticipate 3 of the list to not follow through (IE: I haven't heard any response to e-mails since last spring). Many of the teams are paid and ready to go (we requested an Oct. 1 payment deadline).
Soooo- the time to act is now. Side events- 1. FTC exhibition tourney 2. Guitar hero Tournament 3. Evil Sundae Contest 4. Display of the new control system courtesy of Cybersonics team 103 This event will be huge!! WC:cool: |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
Will FIRST allow 103 to present the control system? didn't they have to sign a release of some kind?
|

Quote:
Plus, I don't think the presentation will be revealing anything about the base code. That's what they're not allowed to release right? |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
I am pretty sure our good friends at 103 are very aware of the legalities and will do things the right way.We need not worry about that. I know FIRST intended for teams with control systems to demonstrate and train other teams and 103 is certainly putting in the effort. I will be happy to see the new control system.

Eruption Pre-Rookies:
Please make sure your Robot Modem is 2007 or 2008 vintage. You must set a unique team number (3000, 3001, etc) and tether OI/RC. This will minimize field communication issues. |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
Team Overdrive (Teen Technology) is happy to be attending and would like to thank 303 for lending us there second robot. Looking forwards to seeing and learning from everybody there.
Also if we already have a team number (2753) could we just program that into the I/O instead of 3001 or something? |

Thanks! |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
An easy way to set your team number is to
-- turn off all the dip switches, so you start with team number zero -- One by one flip on each dip switch starting from the left ---- If the team number that shows is less than your team number then leave it on on move on to the next dip switch to the right. ---- If the team number that shows is greater than your team number then click off that dip switch and move on to the right. We're on the road at 5am...Zzzzz |

I had a blast at BE this year. I enjoyed Game Announcing with Waynep (as always), enjoyed the heck out of the Guitar Hero tournament, anr had a blast, overall. Grats to 25 for hosting such a great event!
And to 2753, you guys are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year (especially if your FTC record is any indication of how you'll do in FRC). Kudos to you for your "up and coming star" award! |

Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
Thanks, 25, for hosting another fantastic Brunswick Eruption.
1923 had a bunch of new students this year, and I was so glad to have this be the first competition they've been to- I wouldn't have it any other way. They were so excited and can't wait for Ramp Riot next weekend. Thanks to 2180 and 1403 for being awesome alliance partners. This was 1923's first time as an alliance captain, and I'm hoping it's not the last. :) It was great to work with you guys. Off-seasons are always wonderful, but for me Brunswick Eruption is my home as far as off-seasons go. I've never missed one. Unfortunately, since I'm going to college next year (and probably not in NJ), I'm not sure what my schedule will be able to accomodate for next year. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to go. As far as being a FIRST student, this was my last Brunswick Eruption. The first of the 'lasts' for my time on 1923. It was a pretty sad realization for me. Considering how well the team did, all the great people I met, the friends I caught up with, I'm gonna have to say- what a way to go! So thank you, 25. You guys rock. Brunswick Eruption is always great. No matter where I am next year, I know BE8 will be just as awesome. :) |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
Our team had an awesome time competing at BE7. We were having a ridiculously tough day with our lift. First the limit switch kept messing up and then the transmission for the lift failed. Not to mention that our radio went berserk in the final round. However, we still have a lot of people to thank.
25- Thank you for putting on such a HUGE and exciting competition. Also for lending us a battery in the final match. 768- Thanks for lending us the hose clamps we needed to fix our lift, without you we would not have been in the eliminations. 303- Thanks for being a great alliance captain and listening to my coaching and strategy even though it was your alliance. 1676- You guys were great alliance partners and really came through for our alliance. I guess people didn't see that you could hurdle well AND get 4-5 lines in hybrid. 103- Brian, thank you for giving such a great and informative presentation on the cRIO. Finally to teams like 25 and 103, and other amazing veterans from this year, you guys have really shown me what kind of robot you need to win a regional like NJ and dominate the competition. We are a long time veteran but we still need to learn how to create robots that efficiently play the game and are consistent. You guys have taught me a lot and a sincere thanks goes out to you. This was our first Tiki from BE and we'll work hard to make next year just as great as this year was. See you all at Trenton, Philadelphia, and Atlanta.:) |

Team 271 took the #1 seed award (I have it first-hand, so to speak) Team 369 did take a Tiki, but I don't remember what the announcement was for. |

369 had a really beautiful robot this year. I remember they had a really nice looking arm last year as well. Hope they continue to be aesthetically pleasing next year.

Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
I wanted to take a little bit of time to cobble together a few thoughts regarding Brunswick Eruption 2008. In 2007, some juniors from FRC 25 invited me out to see the event. I couldn’t make it then but made plans to go for their senior year. A couple of years ago, I decided to travel to off-seasons and regionals around the country to learn about the events and the regional areas, and to meet people who could help me grow in my understanding of FIRST. BE7 was a perfect venue for observation and learning.
Brunswick Eruption was a wonderful, jam-packed, exciting event. Along with everything else, I was looking at the use of space in the high school as well as how the event was run. To add, I was invited to participate in areas of the event that were exciting, continually making me stretch outside the confines of who I think I am and what I think can do. For example, it was great to be a part of the behind-the-scenes team that constructed the evil sundaes. A dedicated group of students put those together and they were my ‘bosses’, instructing me. They were also practicing their announcement while doing that and each time, it got funnier and funnier. I laughed a lot. The weather was fantastic, providing great glimpses of fall color and beauty everywhere I looked. This added to the warmth and friendly atmosphere that surrounded Brunswick Eruption. I found that folks from New Jersey are helpful, generous, adventurous, and fun. Special thanks to: Kristian, Alexa, and Morgan for extending the invitation last year. It was great to have the day to watch all the robots and all the drive teams working together. Mr. C for coaching me with off-season advice, suggestions, and wisdom. Paul Kloberg for taking the time to share history and experiences. That was really cool. Wayne Penn for continually pushing me outside the box that I think in, offering opportunities for fun and growth. Libby for being Libby – gracious, helpful, and patient. The parents and mentors I was able to spend some time with: Sara Reffler, Mrs. McLeod, Mrs. Reffler, and Robyn Needel. The well of experience, support, and wisdom will never run dry with people like this involved in the FIRST community. I met many students, college mentors, alumni, parents, and mentors – people who have enriched my life and my FIRST experience by being who they are and by sharing the Brunswick Eruption competition experience with me. Thank you – have a great 2009 season! |

Brunswick Eruption was such a blast this year! Thank you, 25, for putting on another amazing event. And a big thank you goes out to everyone who didn't hide from my camera!
I'm very glad I made the choice to drive down from MA instead going to one of the closer events - definitely worth it. And without further ado... Pictures can be found HERE. Yes, there are a lot of them. I wanted to make sure I could get photos of as many robots as possible. If your team is in any of these, feel free to steal them! And anyway, out of 1680 pictures taken, this is a pretty good job at narrowing them down. :P (If you don't see your team and were hoping for photos, send me a note and I'll look again to see if I have any). One more note- some of the photos don't look too excellent in the small display when you're going through them. Click "All Sizes" to get a better size (and chance to download the full size image). Hope to see you all next year! :D |
Re: Brunswick Eruption 7 Nov 1 ,2008
It was nice attending Brunswick Eruption a year after our team's formation. One year goes by quickly...anyways
It was a pleasure meeting some CD members such as Libby and Akash. I was blown away by the intricacy of the robots at BE, and was appreciative of how smoothly the event ran. Our Vice Principal came to Brunswick Eruption and saw a greater part of the elimination matches. She thinks FRC is pretty cool, which is good news for us... Anyways, I hope BE stays strong for years to come -Neel |

Sounds like another great BE!
Does anyone know what the final rankings were? |

Thank you 25, for, once again, hosting this awesome event. And thanks to the 3 teams that gave us the motor for our arm. We appreciate your generosity very much. I don't quite know who it was, but thank you. We had a great time as new drivers. Learned a lot, and hope that next year will be just as fun, if not more. |

Incredible Event!!! Most of Team 1403's voices are gone....and now we have to go to Ramp Riot!!! We'll manage though!!!
One thought,FINALLY!!!!! Although FIRST is all year along, this was our first offseason event, and I cannot wait till the 09 season to start. Thanks to all the teams that were there, it was great to see many old friends and meet new friends as well. Amazing job 25 on hosting this event as usual, I just want to add, that our candidate for the Evil Sundae, tried very hard and told us things about the sundae, I'm afraid will ruin people's appetites if I put it up here. Brian Taylor from Team 103 did an absolutely fantastic job explaining the entire Control System, which looks like a lot of fun to play with. Congratulations to all the teams that won awards!! Good luck and hope to see you all during the season!!! --Sravan |
