I feel like that wouldn't be an issue.

Of course for this to work the Coordinated Regional Archiving needs to get a little better, but it grew by leaps and bounds this year along with more webcasts, SOAP Gameday and TBA. I think this would be great for the causal FIRST Fan (who doest necessarily watch webcasts or archived match vids). I was surprised how many people on my team hadn't seen Simbots run before Championship. If it was condensed to the just the exciting stuff (w/commentary) fans expect people may take more of an interest in robots other than their own. Maybe if it is really good we can get someone (PBS etc) to air it. What do you guys think?

I think a 10 minute highlight reel produced and hosted by TBA of each week's events, both of webcast and non-webcast video, including scores, updates, and maybe a top 10 plays of the week, alliance of the week, etc.

Get a spiffy background, put them in suits, have fancy side graphics, and this could very well be a huge thing.

Developing on that idea,

Why not just make the Looking Forward franchise into an addendum of The Blue Alliance website? It already has pictures of robots, the match results from previous regionals, and all the name recognition. I don't know if it could be worked out with the admin's of TBA and the person/ squad behind LF, but I would think it could boost both TBA and LF.

That would make it easier for sure. If the servers could keep up, we can have the "correspondents" all over (including Israel, Brazil, and our other international friends) shoot and upload content, have editors make up the segment, then put it on the webpage. Make sure it's good quality, though, if we want it to be [somewhat] on the same level as SportsCenter.

I would like to see Looking Forward have its own forum (like carnack does.)

I think that the looking forward posts were great. They were interesting and entertaining to read. Thank you very much for taking the time to study, watch, and follow every team and their progress and posting it here on delphi. I am looking forward to what next year may bring, and I can't wait. As always, I am ready for more FIRST.

P.S. Thanks for mentioning our team several times! :)

on the ESPN idea, i would rather see a Discovery Canada type setting, but with a panel of respected people giving "honest analysis" as it says in LF"s user title. i wouldn't be surprised is SOAP or someone else (111 with Midwest...) could pull something like this off

but thats for another thread in my opinion...

I agree! Some sort of video review of each week would be awesome! I would be willing to help with the editing process as well! I would love to have the video resources to put together a top 10 plays of the week!

If many people were willing to help out, Looking Foreward could become not only a very popular read, but a very popular watch as well!

5 minute Top 10 Weekly Highlight Pack is FULL OF WIN... I love it.

At this point, it wouldn't be much harder than starting a thread out there every week on CD asking for the best plays. The hard part isn't even finding the best plays in a given week. The community is large and active enough to be able to have seen them all and quickly identify them. I'd expect us to be able to come up with a solid 20+ plays in literally a few minutes. Have a team harvest the footage from SOAP/TBA.

What else would I love to see?

A weekly running BCS style ranking of top 20 teams in all of FIRST.

It has to be as illogical and controversial as the entire BCS formula/process though, or else it wouldn't be any fun!

Win/Loss, OPR, strength of schedule factors, point differentials... and most importantly, polls from well-respected "writers" =)

Agreed! That would be so fun to see!

I'm almost willing to make a weekly highlights reel for this year and play catch up! If this is what can happen for next years Looking Foreward, LF please PM me so I can help out with it!!

And of course, after all the controversy, we have to change the formula every year to take into account some special case that caused problems..

Hopefully we won't be as anal/crazy/formula driven to do that, I think using a formula or not we could determine the best teams this past year. The formula could just be one part of picking, with other factors having an equal or more important contribution.

PS- Michigan still sucks. ;) Go Bucks!

w00t!!!! Scarlet and gray!

Anyway, we have two options for the weekly host/panel deal. Either get some people in one area to do it or have a high-quality webcam room. Maybe both. I dunno...
