2002 CIM specs
I'm looking for specs (dimensions) for the old CIM motors (2002?) that had the gear shaft.
A friend of mine is using them for a project and needs to connect something to the gear shaft they have. I can't find any of the old specs sheets for them. If you have specs, an adapter or a method for the shaft please let me know. Thanks. |
Re: 2002 CIM specs
It was not an 8mm shaft with a 2mm key. That first came about in 2003, and has undergone slight revision since.

Does anyone know of some sort of coupler that would fit right over the gear shaft? Space and size is a premium. |

Jeff-
We used to wire EDM a profile that would fit onto the "spline" in order to install a gear on that shaft. That would not take up too much space. Ken |
Re: 2002 CIM specs
Has anyone tried turning down the shaft and putting a keyway or flat on it? Would it even be possible or practical?

Re: 2002 CIM specs
You could machine the bore of your gear/hub/etc to fit over the OD of the CIM gear shaft, then drill a transverse hole through both pin them together.

Re: 2002 CIM specs
After we disassembled our 2002 robot, I took the 2002 cims and installed them into 2005 kitbot gearboxes. It was the square aluminum gearbox that looked sort of like the AM toughbox. I just slipped the gear over the shaft and tightened the set screw into the gear teeth. We only used them on a prototype drive train for programmers, so it did not see a lot abuse.
