Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Last year was this events first year and we had some year competitive teams attend. With all the competition, everyone still had a great time and helped each other out. This years event is going to be different. If the teams that came last year attend and some of the ones that said they will be there this year look at what you are going to compete with: 33,47,70,503, 910 just to start with. This is going to be a very exciting event again this year.:) :)

I believe 217 is coming as well.

Correct, I talked with Paul and he said 217 is with a doubt coming to MARC.

Wow, looks like MARC will have a lot of great teams. I don't think 1732 has made a final decision, but I hope we'll be there to defend our title and undefeated record.

Team 240 is definitely going to be showing up. I mean it is only a ten minute drive. :D

Just got word from 1732 mentor. 1732 is coming. Excellent to here that a team from Wisconsin loved our event so much that they did hesitate to come back the following year. Thank you "Hilltoppers" for your comittment and your competitive excellence.

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Team 910 - the Foley Freeze would love to return to "defend our crown" as champs. It was a really fun event last year, and Steve did everything humanly possible to make it enjoyable for everyone involved.

Count us in! :)

Hmm about 30 miles or so from my aunt's house in Clinton. I'm keeping this one on the radar, perhaps for next season. I wonder if she has enough room to house a FIRST team?

So, I have trouble spelling and writing proper sentences. I am from Kentucky what do you expect. I meant to say that 1732 did not hestitate to come back. Either way you read it, it looks like all members of the winning alliance will be back to defend their title. From the e-mails that I receiving, 240/1243 are very hungry for a chance to claim that title. Hope you all get a chance enjoy some friendly but very competitive competition.

This year the MARC event is not being held at the Monroe High School gym. It turns out the gym is going to be under constrution all summer. So, hopefully teams have noticed that this year the event location is being held at Monroe County Community College. With the change of location (FOR THIS YEAR ONLY), the team limit has changed. The max team limit has changed from 36 to 29. The slots are filling up. They get filled on a first come basis (teams that attending the first year of event get automatic invite). IF I received your registration form already you are good to go. Any team interested in attending please get the forms in quickly to assure a spot.

This is going to be intense, even as it is, and no doubt there'll be some more teams signing up. MARC is going to be even better than it was last year, and it was pretty awesome last year. Is there going to be a team social after the matches like there was last year?

Please add Team 2171, the Robodogs from Crown Point Indiana as a competitor. We look forward to a rematch with Team 67 who we lost against in the Curie Finals and to those Martians who we competed against in the Semifinals at West Michigan. We look forward to seeing the 2337 hammer again, the Foley Freeze, and competing against the Champs 217. Thank you for putting on this event. We are excited to be coming. We will see if our mentor team the B.E.A.S.T would like to join us up in Michigan and compete with the other great Michigan teams.

Currently there are a total of 22 teams (21 teams/1 pre-rookie team) registered for the event. That only leaves 7 spots available. I have had several teams ask for the registration form but have not yet received their information yet. I fully expect the spots to be filled in the next week. If you are a team interested in participating in this event, please get me your form soon so you do not miss out.

Any word on specific times for Friday and Saturday?

Steve Ketron 23-05-2008 12:26

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Friday the pits open at 4pm with practice rounds starting at 4:30 until 7:30. At 7:30 we are going to have mentor rounds and 8-10 is a team social.
Saturday pits open at 8am with qualification rounds starting at 9am until ?

I have just been informed that the high school gymnasium construction project has been moved back a month. We were going to host the event at the Monroe County Community College because our gym was closed down all summer. The event is officially changing location to:

Monroe High School
901 Herr Rd
Monroe, MI 48161

This is will give me the oppertunity to have more space available and both a team social and a machine shop if teams need repair. The maximum number of teams that can participate in the event is also being increased to 45. There is currently 24 teams and 2 pre-rookie teams attending so there are plenty of spots open.

I will be sending e-mails to teams main contacts with this information.

Steve Ketron 24-05-2008 17:59

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Yes, in fact pre-order is prefered. This gives us a better idea on what everyone wants. For those who attended last year, it is going to be just like last year only bigger.

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Answer to some logistical questions:

LODGING:
I have called several local hotels and have not been able to get any deals set-up. I think after we get some awsome publicity from this years event that will change. I have a team staying at the Holiday Inn Express Monroe and refered another team to use them. I think it is a great idea if we get all traveling teams together at the same hotel. It's great for evening conversation.

Holiday Inn Express-Monroe
1225 N Dixie Hwy
Monroe, MI 48162
(734) 242-6000‎

Team Social:
Now that the event is back at the High School, we will be having the team social here at the school. I have had several teams come talk to me about how they enjoyed the social we had last year and think we will be doing something of the same this year.

Food:
Food offered this year will be:

Individual orders: 1/4 med pizza individually boxed $3.00
1 order of Cheesy Sticks $2.00
Nacho's $2.00
Hot Dogs $1.00
Pop/Water $1.00
Special: 1/4 med pizza individually boxed, 1 order of Cheesy Sticks and 1 soda all for only $5.00.

Pre-orders are going to have their own line to just walk up, say your name, and get your order. If your team pre-orders please give name and order for Friday and Saturday. All pre-orders must be in by June 24th. Thanks

Last year it was just what it says. A social. We organized it to were you sat with people that you did not know and play cards (socialiized). With the number of teams coming this year, we are going to do that, show a movie, and I want to (if teams are ok with it) get people that would like to try and drive another teams robot do that also.

You can add 279 and 2194 to the list. However, I have been informed that 2194's school has been affected by the floods in the Midwest and they have not gotten back to me wether or not their robot has been damaged. As it stands, 27 teams and 2 pre-rookie teams. Not bad for a second year event.

Also, just out of curiosity, is the social team-based or individual-based? I haven't gotten word yet if the Chickens are attending as a team but I know I'd definitely like to stop by.

Whoops!
We have a correction! An uncommunicated penalty that was not at first accounted for in the scoring has been scored after much debating and due to the added penalty the result is the Blue Alliance winning the match 70-68 and thus the fifth alliance upsets the top seeded alliance.

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

Congrats to 70, 1504, and 1528. You guys played really well, and I was especially impressed (and frustrated) by your defense :D I wouldn't have had a problem taking home the title two years in a row, but I've also no problem with losing to some good teams.

Thanks so much to 67 and 226 for being such great alliance partners. It's a shame we couldn't share in a victory, but I'm glad we had to chance to compete together. HOT, I was especially impressed with your drivers. They were very smooth and coordinated.

Also thank you very much to all of the staff, referees, announcers and other volunteers for putting together a great competition. For having an event that was more than twice the size it was a year ago it was run very smoothly. I have a very good feeling about MARC and I could easily see it turning into one of the most popular off-season events. I only wish I had the chance to spend a little more time at the team social, but we had a few repairs to make that night.

Great competition, great people, and great times. That about summarizes MARC 2008.

Thanks to Steve Ketron, the host teams, and all the volunteers. It was a great event. Definitely worth the drive from Wisconsin!

Also thanks to our eliminations alliance partners, Advanced Power and Frog Force. I thought we had a great comeback in the second match.

Thank You to all who came.
I enjoyed working on and being in the competition with you guys.
Thanks to our alliance partners.
You were great company.

Also, I would like to make a shout out to my friends on 240, who dont dance to the YMCA correctly.:P

I enjoyed myself. I look forward to seeing you all at competitions next year and the MARC next summer.

It was a fun competition. It was great to meet some members of the iPirates (and to lose to them in Euchre twice in a row). It was fun to be able to watch all the FIRST teams at my last competition.

And the ACMY is a perfectly good dance! :D

I would like to thank all the teams and volunteers for making MARC what I believe to have been a huge success. I was a little worried at first with the dramatic increase in team participation but because of the teamwork and cooperation of all the teams and volunteers we made it through it very smoothly.

A couple special thank you's:
Dan Swando: thank you again for your hardwork and desire to make this event run correctly. I heard there were a couple tough issues on the field and people have told me you made the right calls. EXCELLENT WORK as always.

Mark Koors and Ronnie Tront: Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication in the flawless running of the compture equipment/programs.

KOKO you did a great job with queing. This was my biggest concern coming into the event and I can not say thank you enough for the work you did to make that work so well.

Team 830469: Although you were not on the official participation list, thank you for allowing your robots to go through the beatings they took to help out a couple pre-rookie teams. Also 830, thank you for volunteering to help out refing and basically anywhere I needed it.

To all the teams that came, your willingness to help out each other is one of the things that I keep getting comments about. This is why MARC is able to become a bigger event. Please keep up the good work and spread the word.

NEXT YEAR SAME TIME, SAME PLACE, AND 45 TEAMS.

Again thank you everyone for making this event great.:)

Grant, I am so sorry. I would like to put out a special KUDO'S to Grant for the most outstanding MC/Game announcing. Are you sure you haven't don this for like 10 years now. There is no way this was your first time doing this. As the event coordinator, I am going to take your word on coming back next your. You were awesome and a shout out to any event coordinator that needs a MC/Announcer. If you need one, beg or steal to get this guy. Thanks Grant for everything.

First of all, to Steve and the whole crew at MARC... THANK YOU! Your kindness and willingness to help out and do everything possible to take care of the teams as if they were your own was amazing. Steve - helping us to machine a new shoulder joint during alliance pickings allowed us to compete at full power for the playoffs, and to advance to the finals. Thank you so much! I owe you a sprocket!

To 70, 1504, and 1528, congrats on your hard-fought win! You're all so gracious and nice. I'm SO glad that the iPirates finally won their first event ever. So awesome! Congrats to all of you!

Finally, to our partners, 67 and 226 - we were a GREAT alliance. Very cool getting the high score of the entire event! The "FREEZER BURN" will have to link up again at IRI and take home the gold. It was a blast playing with you all.

To everyone at MARC - we had a terrific time. Can't wait to see you all again next year!

Thanks to Steve and the whole crew for putting on a great event. We didn't make it out last year, but I'm hoping this will now become a tradition for our team. We had a lot of fun.

Congratulations to 1504, 70, and 1528. You guys played great.

Lastly thanks to 1025 and 1023. We made a good run, but in the end, just didn't have enough fire power to overcome 67, 910, and 226.

Contratulations to all the teams for making this a fun competition - hope to see you all there next year.

MARC was awesome! Keep it up for next year and hope to increase! It was an incredible competition, espically with all that crazy Marco's pizza and air-conditioned pits...totally wicked. :D

Although, why hasn't Dean Kamen invented the teleporter? I didn't like the 8 hour drive...haha :P

Sorry Koko for breaking a flag...I also saw I wasn't the only one...

Wood does not make the best flag poles.

I have video of the entire elimination rounds. As soon as I can I will post them. I was so busy running the event that I did not really get to see any of the rounds. I really want to see the 96-96 tie with no penalties. That is awesome. From what I here that was some vary exciting matches all over the place this year.

Re: 2008 MARC Registration Now OPEN

MARC was an awesome event, and I am so glad to have been a part of it.

70/1528/1504, you guys were a great alliance. It's always fun announcing for an alliance with pirates, penguins, and aliens :p you played hard, fast, and determined; congratulations on the gold! (and high fives to team 70 for the interactive MC action, you guys kept it fun!)

67/910/226, another amazing alliance. Many of my FIRST friends are summed up in this alliance, and I mean come on.. you just can't beat "Freezerburn." Specifically to 67 - your drivers are SICK. I would get lost announcing your matches because the hotbot was just all over the place. Hurdle, grab, hurdle, grab, drive through traffic, hurdle. As a driver and an announcer (who saw a lot of matches that day), I give you maajor props. 910 as well, you guys never stopped improving after our Great Lakes run. You were clearly one of the dominant robots here at MARC.

33/2337/279... let me tell you, you guys were an insane alliance. I talked to most of you personally after you were eliminated, but yeah.. all I have to say is, let the IRI'ers pray this alliance doesn't reform!

As for MARC itself, maajor high fives all around to all the volunteers. It was a fun time to be had by all, whether you were reffing, doing the sound, MCing, doing field control, or a little of everything, it was a great time and a great event that ran pretty smoothly (few hiccups here and there but nothing too major). Steve, thank you so much for putting on a phenomenal offseason competition, and thank you for letting me have a chance behind the microphone. I'm not sure all the praise is warranted, but I did have a fun time and I appreciate the kind words :) I will most definitely be around next year.

I feel like there is way more to be said here, but nothing is coming to mind. I'll probably edit later. Come visit me at Cedar Point!!
First edit: Steve, do you have video of any of the other matches? I want to hear how my announcing really sounded.. I was whipped tired by the finals O:)

Sounds like I missed a great competition! I had to stand up in a wedding which I had a blast at, but I still have not figured out how to be in two places at one time. Congratulations to 1504 ,70 ,1528 on a well deserved win!Beth Sweet and team 1504, I told you after our preformance together at WMR that you guys rock!! Team 70 allways top notch ,and our teams together have also had some successful runs through elims. 1528 congrats on your first victory, the first one is always a special one. To the Hot Team we have come so close ,one day we will win one together!!!!! Lets make it happen at IIIIIIRRRRRRIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments. I have to say, driving the HOTBOT is CR4ZY, it took a while to get used the the rear steering the the full power of that well designed and programmed machine. I am looking forward to IRI, with all the greatest teams in the world gathered there, I'm sure the finals will be as difficult as in Einstein.

I would personally like to thank the pit crew, they don't always get the credit they deserve.

lol, cause those poor people have to fix the robot after my 2 minutes of "RoAdRaGe!" and going reverse through traffic

While I was driving... my bro took video of all the matches we attended... we missed our second match due to technical problems [our endofactor was not connected to our robot ;) ]
When I got home I compiled the videos into one file and uploaded it to vreel and blip tv, although I didn't have a match list or the match scores to include in the video :D
I tried to put it on youtube... but this is the response --> "Broadcast:"Public | Rejected (length of video is too long)"
the video is about 35 minutes and encompasses all the matches... that we showed up to :P . I know my driving sucks to begin with...
but I got better as the regional went on :D
