If you have a .edu address and aren't actually a student, that deal is probably pretty hard to beat. However, I'm guessing that a lot of universities have better bargains than this if you go directly through them. The computer store here at CMU has Office for $30, Windows XP for $15, and substantial discounts on a ton of other products.

That may be risky, though. According to the second link: "Microsoft says you have to carry at least a half-credit course load to get the deal. Microsoft’s site says you have to pay the full price if they find out you are not." I'm not sure how easy or if it would be worth it for them to try to find out, though.

I get Office 2007 Enterprise for Windows, and Office 2008 for Mac for free through my college. ;)

But either way, the above link is a good deal for those colleges which don't specifically give their students free/discounted software.

We have purchase 3 copies through this offer for 3 students. It is legit. The offer at our local university doesn't beat this.

Note: this offer is only good through May 16th and it is for the ULTIMATE version of Office.

I agree, UCF has horrable deals at their tech store, you can find better deals online compared to what they offer students. the only good thing is the student discount off apple stuff.... valencia is worse... :ahh:

Academic Pricing for OfficePro 2007 is $74 per seat. Office Standard is $55 per seat. As long as you are an educational institution you qualify (ie the PO is a school). As for Academic (Non-College) Student versions it is about twice as much. Here's where I've bought licenses in the past for my school.

There are hundreds of authorized resellers that charge about the same amount.

I used OpenOffice exclusively on my laptop for almost two years.

It's a great program, especially since it is free. But the reason why I ultimately moved back to Office (besides getting it for free through my school) was that OpenOffice still lags behind MS Office in the feature department by about several years. (Although I am quite mad that Office 2007 can't even read ODF files straight out of the box...) :-/

If having the latest and greatest in features is not an issue, and you want to save some money, OpenOffice is a great option.
