Hay Andy, what gear boxes was 102 using? :)

I hope Andy doesn't mind me answering the question. They had a custom one speed gearbox (4 of them) that went to each mecanum wheels. Each gearbox was powered by one small cim motors. Perhaps, it would be great if someone from team 102 can post some detailed pictures.

It depends on how you look at it. If you assume 100% efficiency throughout our system, and a 5500 RPM free speed for the CIMs, theoretically we're geared for 18.4 fps in high gear. That being said, the 100% efficiency assumption is clearly flawed. Using some standard efficiency numbers, we figure a more accurate top speed for our robot is between 15-16 fps, as quoted by Parker.

So, we were pretty fast, but definitely not the fastest. (I'm sure there's some Canadian metric vs. imperial joke to be made in all of this, but I'll leave it to someone wittier than myself.)

1114 was an interesting "fast" robot. I walked away from both GTR and Waterloo with the idea firmly planted in my head that 1114 was the "fastest" robot there. But I also knew they weren't geared for a top speed as high as many other robots there.

It's a world of difference when your drivers find the seams with such skill that they rarely have to slow down.

Now THAT'S fast...

While 1114 clearly isn't the fastest, they appear so fast because they have no wasted motion. They don't ever overturn, misline up picking a ball, or any other inefficient motions. They get the max out of thier 15 or so f/s due to thier fantastic drivers.

Furlongs per Fortnight?

Nah...furlongs are, as I recall, 1/8 of a mile, or about 200 yards (English) and both metric and imperial use the same time units (Fortnight=2 weeks).

I'm guessing that 1114 found foot-wide gaps and made them meter-wide ones, though.

This is the exact same feeling I've had watching 330 over the past four years. In 2007, there was no doubt in my mind that they were the fastest team in FIRST, until I heard what they were actually geared for. There's a world of difference between fastest robot in open space, and the fastest robot in an actual FIRST match.

no we didn't have a camera working at the time but we have a video of a different match. our record breaking one was flawless in its turns and every one seemed to move out of our way...

Just so you know, TBA or The Blue Alliance, just so happens to EVERY one of your matches archived. To see them, click on the TBA icon next to your team number in the header of one of your posts. Then tell which match you did this epic 16 in! We would all love to see.

Yea you guys had a really fast robot, it made the field look much smaller then it really is. Just looks like all you need to change is the oversteering and you could have an amazing lap-count.

we were able to get 11 laps once with us going around 13-15fps in this match http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...p?matchid=7307 . it was our best match statisticly but I think our best match is this one http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...p?matchid=7346 . I like this one just for 00:40 - 00:50. We are the tiny little robot

the 16 laps, do you know which match it is? because almost all match videos are on or will be on www.thebluealliance.net you just need to know the match number.

UPS 1675 is running somewhere in the 20 FPS range looking at a possible 28-30 FPS for IRI

Re: FASTEST 2008 ROBOT

1098 never measured flat out speed but in a classroom we did 21fps. 1098 has gotten 6 lines in autonomous and often got 10 laps in tele with a full field. We have gotten the sensors working correctly and can do more in atonomous but it depends on traffic. The speed is a tough one, our bot is light and narrow but in Overdrive traffic to avoid a robot changing direction sometimes our driver would swerve and end up hitting another robot. It was a very tough and delicate balance between going fast and not hitting other players. I had refs comment that they saw the wheels running full speed in reverse and knew the driver was trying but we still hit a robot and we needed to be more careful.

1098 had a great season!

Thank you to everyone involved in FIRST!

Andy
