IRI Talent Show 2008

All:

The 2008 Indiana Robotics Invitational will, as always, feature a Talent Show. My name is Matt Fultz; I'll be hosting/organizing/coordinating/.../ the show for this year.

If you or a group of yours would like to enter your talent, please send an e-mail to talent@indianaroboticsinvitational.org

Once the deadline for entry has passed, the Talent Show Committee will make a "Yes/No" ruling on all performances. All performances will be told their status immediately to begin the necessary preparation.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through PM or at mtfultz@purdue.edu. It should be an incredible event this year, so let's take the Talent Show to new heights, as well!

Matt

A group from the Killer Bees plans to perform a heavy metal masterpeice, fronted by none other than Jim Zondag.
Also featuring:
Brian Fain - Lead Guitar

Devon Stuart - Bass
Andrew Poisson - Drums

You guys are still one of the most memorable acts to date, only being surpassed by the tooth brush people from 2004. I am still saying EW to that one.

Never thought of that, but it would be cool if it was. Even if it's not, I will try to have the TechnoKats camera set up in the back recording the entire show.

All:

I want to make sure that I am receiving the e-mails correctly from the "talent" email address (they should be forwarding to me).

As of now, I have only 2 acts. Team 33 and Team 1902 I believe. If this is incorrect, please let me know. If this IS correct....then we need more people to sign up! Or this could be one lame talent show....

Zondag is singing, this is going to be the best talent show ever. He has to be better than Karthi. Also IRI Talent Show Attendees, no need to worry about Karthik if he tries to "sing", the members of Team 494 have a balloon waiting for just for him.

Note to self: remind Karthik to bring special space food to tame Martians into pets so that no balloons will be used. Poor Karthik... all he does is try to share his wonderful singing talents with the world, in a truly uplifting and optimistic song, and look at how you all pick on him... Shame on you all... ;) :p

PS- If Zondag is singing, someone better take video!

I have only attended the 2007 IRI so far, and was very impressed with the incredible showcase of talent in the Talent Show. (It is kind of like a microcosm reflecting examples of the diverse talents and interests of students and mentors spread throughout the community of FIRST. Pretty amazing, really.)

Re: IRI Talent Show 2008

All:

To all who have submitted talents for the show, I thank you. There will be an audition period from 12:00-2:00pm on Friday of IRI. This audition period will be very similar to year's past, and has a two purposes. The first is to check time constraints for each act, and the second is to check the appropriateness of each act. If the talent show itself reaches too far over 1 hour, some acts will not make the final list for the show.

That said, please make sure to have an "auditionable" act. Any act that was submitted as a "We want to do something, but we don't know what" will need to know "what" by Friday at noon, or will not be included in the show.

Thank you all for your participation, and I look forward to seeing all of the acts in person!

Well, yasee. We have a kid on our team named Maxwell...
And I could totally hook him up with a silver hammer.

But I don't know if any "Joan"'s will be too happy...

Re: IRI Talent Show 2008

All:

More details about the auditions:

- Please bring any required music/video/technological requirements to the audition when your group/act comes in.

- The auditions will be open, and each group will go as soon as they are ready to audition. There is no set schedule to audition.

- At this point, no time length is "too long" to be considered. The judging panel will, however, take this into consideration when making the final decisions, so please keep it reasonable.

- A flyer will be distributed to all teams on Friday morning with these details, as well.

Matt

They refer to this as a "mosh pit" on the YouTube description. That relatively tame activity is most definitely NOT a mosh pit per the 2004 definition of mosh pit during DSATKB's debut concert (during "Enter Sandman", I believe it was).....:p

Such a sight has not been seen since, per IRI regulations, har.

Do we really want to see this on Chief Delphi?

The list of "backup dancers" if anyone was wondering

1. Michelle Celio
2. Mike Mullinax
3. Libby Kamen
4. Billfred
5. Patrick McCarthy
6. Nica F.
7. Ryan Dognaux
8. Kyle Love
9. Elgin Clock
10. Andrew Morrison

There are pictures from the whole performance on the DSK gallery (big thanks to Heidi for providing her pictures ..)

Some of those pictures show all the dancers, possibly including the "oops, we're too early .. go back, go back!" part, which was hilarious to watch from where I was standing.

But wow. Candid photos of me acting ridiculous... Great job Heidi!

I think I have all of the older "dancers" (Thanks Nica) but there was 16 total.
