Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
So which robot movie is the best one you have seen in your opinion?
Wall-E The Iron Giant The Terminator Series (I'll even let you include the rmovie ride at Universal) The Robocop Series Short Circut Robots A.I.: Artificial Intelligence I Robot Transformers Or any other film that you think is worthy of consideration (I'm waiting for the write campaign for Saturn 3) |
Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
My vote goes for the very underrated and under appreciated Iron Giant.
If you didn't get chocked up at the end. You don't have a soul. |

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
I'm saying the Iron Giant. Brings back great memories. That was the first, and possibly the only, movie that made me cry. In my defense, I was six.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
My vote was crossed between Wall*E and Short Circuit. Went with Wall*E, that film just touched my heart for the first time in a very long time. With that said, I'm a very proud owner of Short Circuit, and if you have not seen it...stop what you are doing right now and go watch it.

I'd say Wall-e is my favorite... But The Iron Giant and Short Circuit are timeless classics.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
Oh come on guys! Have you forgotten ALL the classics?
Forbidden Planet - the premiere of Robby The Robot, perhaps the greatest and most prolific movie robot character of all time. Metropolis - Fritz Lang's classic. Possibly the most influential science fiction and robotics movie ever made. Runaway - Gene Simmons as a better Doctor Evil than Mike Meyer. The little acid-spitting spider-bots are like Hexbugs on steroids. Eve Of Destruction - When this robot gets ticked off, you don't want to be in the neighborhood. THX-1138 - George Lucas' first full film, adapted from one of his early student film projects. Think of "Logan's Run" done with robots. Silent Running - Huey, Dewey, and Louie give Bruce Dern a run for his money. Oh yeah, and they kicked his behind at poker. Westworld - Yul Brenner with a fake face and a six-gun. What could be better? And probably the best of them all - The Day The Earth Stood Still. I mean, who can forget Gort? ![]() -dave . |

The thing that bothered me about this (and why I STILL haven't finished watching this movie after about 3 attempts) is that since it's a classic movie, & thus a silent movie, there is a lot of reading while watching the movie. Something about my ADD self can't sit still long enough through ANY completely dubbed movie movie to read it all (without falling asleep all 3 times I've attempted it with this movie, & a bunch of other time with other movies). I really wish this movie was not necessarily remade, but re-edited just with the addition of an actual speech track over it. Oh wells. Maybe one of these days I'll see it in it's entirety. |
Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
What about Blade Runner? Since it's based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, then it's a robot movie and it's one of my all time favorites.
Heidi p.s. Interesting Metropolis note: they've found missing footage! http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSL0344303820080703?feedType=RSS&feedName=entert ainmentNews |

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
I've only seen WALL-E and Robots of those choices, but WALL-E is my new favorite movie, replacing even the childhood favorite The Great Mouse Detective.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
Are we counting all inanimate objects in the "Robot movie" mix?
The Brave Little Toaster anyone? :p |
Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
I said Wall-E, but its a close competition between most of them. Robby the Robot does hold a special place in my heart. I actually have seen the original Gort at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. Though the one robot I love more than Wall-E is R2-D2. I have a lot of R2-D2 collectibles.

Besides, the androids (or replicants, or whatever you want to call them) really push the boundary of "robot". In the book they weren't even remotely mechanical. I suppose robots don't have to be mechanical (merely artificial), but it's still an interesting debate whether or not those androids were robots. |
Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
Although it's not primarily a robot movie, Bishop the android and the big yellow walking freight loader from Aliens (it's teleoperated from inside :)) come to mind as memorable big screen robots.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
I loved Wall-E but it is just too soon for me to evaluate whether it is the best. Needs some staying power. I also loved the Iron Giant and almost voted for that one, but ultimately when I think about robots the movie that first comes to mind is Star Wars. The variety of creativity in droids throughout these movies is amazing and I love R2D2 and to a lesser extent C3PO. It was truly inspiring seeing the original in 1977 (although somewhat terrifying since I was pretty young). Special effects have come a long way since then.

I must give mention to Robot Carnival.

However, I can't believe that no one mentioned the Star Wars movies. Who could not love the comic relief between C3PO and R2D2. |
Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?
I voted for transformers. I havent seen any of those others except for I robot, and i like transformers. I do agree that star wars should be included. It has everything, little green people who talk funny, and big fuzzy things that scream instead of talking:D
My favorite comedy is Top Secret. It is the funniest movie ive ever seen. it has nothing to do with robots though.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92R20ImGNCU go to 2.50 for one of the funniest parts in the movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-jqE...eature=related This is how the movie starts. Best beginning to a movie ever. Joey |
