team 180? 183?

okay this was my first year and it was amazing!

when team 1557 first started in 2005 there was another team i believe it was 180 or 183 it was not SPAM ill have to look on the robot to be sure but the first year they gave us a robot that was used for the game where the robot had to hang from a bar i was told by a mentor that that was the last year they were a team.

now i think they were from orange county but they have since vaporized off the radar i cant find anything about them could some please tell me what this team was or is

Re: team 180? 183?

SPAM is 180, so it isn't 180. 183 is not in CD-Media, TBA, or FIRSTWiki. They may never have existed, or may just have disintegrated.

It may be 186. They were from Florida, and are no longer around, according to TBA.

Here are pics of their team from '03 and '02.

Eh, this was just from looking around the above mentioned sites and this site. I certainly wasn't around in 2004 or 2005, but I still hope my investigative work helps. Maybe some of the more veteran members (esp. veterans from florida) will be more knowledgeable.

Good luck in searching!

183 was from Texas and has not competed in some time.
138 is from New Hampshire and still competes.

Re: team 180? 183?

Maybe you can post a picture of the robot and people can try to recognize them that way.

Based on what you said, the robot is either from 2004 (likely) or 2000 (less likely).

Re: team 180? 183?

186 was the Gateway Alliance, which last competed in an FRC regional at the 2004 Palmetto Regional. Perhaps that's who you're thinking of?

Re: team 180? 183?

186 was from Lake Buena Vista and did not compete after 2004.

1083, The Emoticons? Not sure where in Florida they were from. The robot in the picture doesn't look like theirs though, but I can't really tell. I know at least one of their mentors now works with 1902, Exploding Bacon.

It wasn't them. Their 04 robot was a collector only. Didn't hang.

Believe they were from Orlando.

[edit] he never said their robot hung. Just that it was the game where robots hung. Coulda been 1083.

Re: team 180? 183?

As far as my memory serves, I believe it is team 186's 2004 robot.

Billfred 16-07-2008 06:30

Re: team 180? 183?

As the guy who did the rankings at Robot Rodeo that year (in a strange-smelling back room with Gary Dillard using a white board), I can say with certainty that 1083 (Team Emoticons) competed with their own robot. They were also somehow shorted a match in all the ZOMG-the-field-broke scheduling, but such is the peril of being the host team.

okay i dont think its 1083

i think its 183 i have a partial side picture if you zoom you can see a 3 or a 6 following an 8

we call it the disney bot because they were only sponsered by disney

That being said I suspect it is 1068 they were sponsored by Disney and only existed 2003-2005 from Orlando, FL

Re: team 180? 183?

Ok, I dug through some old stuff I got from 1065.

Here's what I've come up with. (We're talking 2004 Robots, I hope).
In the background, 1083

Background once more, 1068.

I'll keep looking...I thought I had some left over 186 stuff. ><

A list of teams who competed at the Florida Regional in 2004. I'm not sure which are Florida Teams, or what Florida Teams didn't attend the regional, but hopefully the list will help. Process of elimination anyone?

Hanging on a bar could also be 2000.

Yes, but that doesn't meet gorilla's timeframe of being given the robot when his team organized in 2005.

gorrilla 16-07-2008 16:03

Re: team 180? 183?

not 1065 or 1068 it could be 2000 on the robot it has 2 cim motors and drill motors

i dont know how old it was when they gave it to us

you should see how it throws the grappling hook there's a piece of pvc attached to a moving arm that pulls forward somehow and springs back with surgical tubing and throws that hook which is reeled in by a window motor we never got to see it work because it was not working when they gave it to us(i really want to get it working but everyone else on the team wants the other old robots working)

i think it was from 2000 because that was the year the championship was at epcot and one of our metors son was on that team and they somehow got the robot when they started team 1557 we will all know for sure on thursday night

There were no CIM motors in 2000 though, so unless they retrofitted them on there 2004 is a better option.

Re: team 180? 183?

if you guys have never messed with it any chance you can just look at the dip switches on the RC. 2004 was the last year teams had to set their numbers that way. I am assuming from your description that you haven't done much with it and in that case i would bet their team number would still be the one set there.

Same thing goes for the OI, it should have the team number listed on it.

Re: team 180? 183?

i can find out the team number tomorrow its on the side of the robot too i just havent got a picture of it and if i knew the team number i would still not know what happened to this team it would be really funny if they were still around

Yup, sounds like 2004. That was the year of the turnover to CIMs

Re: team 180? 183?

delete, nvm

186 did host raucous in 2004 at Gateway high school, i remember that, our mentor almost got into a fistfight with another team

as for waht happened with 1068, they have merged with 665, 1068 used to be the edgewater high team,

i wonder what ever happened to team 762 from lake Brantley high school, they built their 2004 robot spending under $800 and finishing in the top 8.... thats what you call a budget team,

1402 did a presentation for your school board in late 2004, i remember us driving up there on a Wednesday, that Friday, we did the same presentation for what is now team 1649

oh, btw: if you were wondering, here is the link to the elimination matches back from the 2004 florida regional

Re: team 180? 183?

186 was SPAM's alliance captain when they won the 2002 Florida regional (along with MiM). One of their mentors, Andy (I've gone stupid on his last name) was on the Florida Regional Committee and was the emcee at the 2004 Florida Regional. I've lost touch with them but I have seen some of their mentors involved with other teams.
