FYI
For those sour grapes who like to say Barry won because he was in the same division with absentee owners I just want to let you know he's already sending me list for his picks. That's the real reason Barry won because he actually bothered to study on what teams would do well for him and submit a list for EACH AND EVERY DRAFT so he'd make sure he got the teams he wanted.
If you want to beat the best it's sometimes best to BE like the best. Send in those lists kiddies. Barry is already one step ahead of you!

I just want to double check -- ideally we will have 47 lists:

Each list has ALL teams from the respective regional
Each list is ordered in the order of team preference

Is that it? I'm still a bit confused on the symantecs of scoring, and I'm really confused on how teams are assigned to players -- e.g. if I get 191 on my fantasy team for a particular regional, does that lock 191 from being used by other players?

Also, what's the desired format of the lists?

One thing I noticed last season is that the players who actually a) picked or b) sent in lists did better across the board than those who simply went by the randomizer. The top three over the regionals were especially active participants; probably the top 50% had lists. The bottom 50% or so didn't have lists at all and, for the most part, didn't show up.

Scoring first: Players will be in tiers based on how many teams there are. If someone in Tier 1 picks team 1114, nobody else in Tier 1 can have them, but someone in Tier 2 can. Trades are allowed, if both players and the commissioner agree.

Lists: As many teams as you want. I usually go to the point that "beyond this, I don't care", but others go all the way. Organize the teams in order of preference; the first team on the list when it's your turn is your pick. Format is up to you, but we do need to be able to read it easily. I use the following:

Would there ever be a way for one of your picks to hurt you? i.e. make your score lower than if you had picked no team.

It bit several people last year...

The traditional scoring system goes something like this:

win +2
tie 1
loss -2

[Award scores follow; none are negative]

But, if you don't pick a team, you get one anyway thanks to the randomizer.

Randomizer worked fine for me the first season we did The Championship Event FF.
Thank you randomly assigned team 67 in 2005! :D

Re: [FF]: 2009 Season Long FF

Ed, thanks for the huge props. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and there is an element of luck to the game, ei: which tier one is in for a certain regional and what the draft order is. Overall, the issue of luck is washed out when picking 44 regionals and everyone has the same chances. The following is a tip from Despair.com
It is to one's advantage to send in a pick list and not rely on the randomizer.

As for the question on how long your list should be:
There are usually about 10 people per tier, depending on the size of the regional. Every person gets 3 robots, so multiply the number of people in a tier by 3 and that's how long your list needs to be. Of course, in order to rank teams the more scouting that is done the better.

Ed, correct me if I am wrong, but we should not be concerned about the order of the list as it stands now, because tiers will be randomized and as will draft orders, right?

Also, how do we find the team lists for all of the district competitions? They aren't on the 2009 Event List
