Graphics processing unit I think. Like a Graphics card. ATI and Nvidia have some that use lots of cores (upwards of a hundered I think). That compared to traditional cpu graphics with one core.

As vivek said, it's a Graphics Processing Unit (as opposed to Central Processing Unit). Basically, GPUs are set up to extremely parallel (which they have to be to render 3d scenes onto your screen). I think what Jamie and Adam are trying to demonstrate is the advantage of using a GPU (many pixels at a time) over a CPU (one pixel at a time, since they are less parallelized).
