FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Drumroll....... and then nothing.
I hate to moan... but I thought a big deal was made of the FLL "kickoff" but I can't even find where it is. The newly updated FirstLegoLeague.org website is lacking in major areas (lots of "Coming Soon" pages), but even the USFIRST.org link to the "Challenge" page goes nowere.... I "Think" I have the right page... but all I get is a lame message: COMING SOON - Check back September 5 for the unveiling of all the Climate Connections Robot Game related information! Woo... Hoo.... Anyone have a clue if the game has been released or not? I'm here: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/community/fll/game.aspx Phil. |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
That's where I've been looking, going back and hitting "refresh" every so often. Usually it's a noon release, isn't it?
The FLL website has been redone. Q&A, for instance, will be in the form of a blog. Actually 3 blogs, for general, Game and Judging. Considering that in some parts of the world it's now the 6th ... |

Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
I am pretty sure the "Game Rules" page is the right one, but its not there yet. If they are trying to build anticipation, they are doing an excellent job.
While waiting for the game, check out some of the new cool stuff! I found this article on the site and thought it was very well written Why Scores and rankings Don't Mean Much As a judge, it can become very tricky picking the "best" team at competitions. I know of at least one instance of having a parent complain after a competition was over about his belief that his son's team had the best robot there, made a perfect score, and therefore should have won the competition and gone to the International Showcase. I remember the robot was indeed excellent at what it did, but had no sensors or third motor. It indeed deserved to be at the state competition, but it was clear which other teams had gained more out of their experiences. |

Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?

Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Still showing errors on the website.
I tried opening it in Explorer, Firefox and in google Chrome.... apparently not a browser problem... I would imagine they are frantically working on it... R |

Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
The "not so funny" thing is that the USFIRST.ORG website boldly states that the "FLL Challenge is released" ....... and links to the server error page....
Released from it's cage maybe :( Phil. Oh no!!!... there's even a press statement that says: Quote:

Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
its up!
First reaction: I'm liking the look of the mat this year. It is mostly white with some color lines here and there. This will really mike the light sensor useful and easy. |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Apparently the videos were not working.
The links to download them are good now... Perhaps this will get fixed soon... It has been fixed... downloading videos now... Great job FLL TEAM!! R |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
And I thought the missions couldn't get any harder than last year. Ha! Let's see, which team should I challenge to get a perfect score this year, and what limitations should I put on it? Last year's challenge was to do it in one program.
Great rule changes. Stay-in-place jigs are back - YEA! And no more Parking Lot, the most confusing thing of last year. I'm a bit concerned about the locked or attached test though - conceivably that could limit the ability of the robot to grasp objects. |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Awwww maaan, I have to go and build so many of these kits now :(
Hmm, at least I have freshmen in robotics class that'll do it for a grade We have to construct so many of these because field kits won't be passed around regionals (what I heard) for our NJ state championship... *sigh*, time to go find some willing freshmen... |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Has anyone been able to print out the missions and rules?
Whenever I try I just get a blank page. D'oh I'd love a printer-friendly pdf..... ps: not all of my kids have broadband (or even internet) at home so printouts are kinds necessary for reference. Electronic access should make it easier.... right..... I'm also concerned about the Q&A being a blog.... As long is it's possible to see all the Q&A's on one long page it will be OK, but if they are spread across many pages, and in random order.... it's gonna be tricky.... |
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
the downloadable videos appear to be a .flv format. What do I need to see videos in this format?
|
Re: FLL Missions anounced at noon or what?
Barry,
I just downloaded them and RealPlayer plays them just fine...I am using RP 11.0.03 If that helps... I think that opening the window will be the toughest challenge... it appeared to me from the video that you have to turn a wheel to do that... Interesting missions.... |
