Georgia teams, please read
Hey peoples of Georgia:
So I don't know if any of you saw the thread (or the Facebook message if you're in the Georgia FIRST group) concerning a robotics movie coming out, but this is for the Georgia premiere of said movie. The theatre's in Norcross, by the way. As is happening in other states, we're trying to organize for there to be some robots on display at the theatre on Octobre 3/4 (maybe longer, I'm not sure yet). So far, there's my team (2415...yeah, we're now a second year team. So we've only got one robot) and then 1261, who now officially rock for showing an interest. So please become awesome and say that you want to display your robot at this premiere. If you are interested, and I do hope that you are, shoot me an email starcat39@gmail.com or post on this thread or something. And it would be really nice to have more than...2 or 3 robots. Thanks! And just to see who reads to the end, this could quite possibly turn out to be a fundraising event... |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
Oh, so these robots are simply going to sit there? I wasn't informed of that information.
But still, no problem, 1771 is also in. NG confirm this? |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
There will be a demo, probably Friday after school and likely Saturday and Sunday if anybody's willing to spend their weekend doing more Robotics stuff. Sorry if I made the impression that the robots would be just sitting there.
In terms of fundraising, there are two options: selling tickets at a discounted price for students at your school for a special showing or selling DVD's of the movie to students. Still working on the details, I have to talk to my own coaches... Awesome! How many robots would you be willing to bring? And just 'cuz I can, go Gwinnett! |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
We only have an 08 robot. How many robots do you guys need?
|
Re: Georgia teams, please read
We can possibly do it if I can get students to run the bot. We have the 08 monster bot.

Re: Georgia teams, please read
ttldomination: The one will be fine.
sdcantrell56: Awesome to hear that! Since the premiere is next week, here's some info I've been receiving over the last few days (sorry about the somewhat late reply). The address is 6135 Peachtree Parkway, at the Peachtree Cinema (local name)/Galaxy Peachtree Funplex 8. It's right off of Peachtree Parkway at the Peachtree Industrial exit. Since both of you will probably be coming down Peachtree Industrial, maybe Medlock Bridge would be easier? I'm not really sure. For displaying the robots, ideally, we would have a team for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but have all the robots there Friday afterschool. Unfortunately, my school is playing our rival for Friday night football, so most of our team is busy. However, we would be willing to take Saturday or Sunday. For actual displaying, I think my team can bring one of the balls from this year's game. The movie theatre itself is rather packed as an arcade, but luckily right outside is a courtyard area that we should be able to use. These are the show times: Friday-Saturday - 12:00 2:20 4:40 7:00 9:20 11:40 Sunday - 12:00 2:20 4:40 7:00 9:20 Obviously, no one should stay until 11:40 on Friday or Saturday night, but if breakfast/lunch/dinner options are needed, there's a Chick-Fil-A and IHOP out in the parking lot, and a Mellow Mushroom and a Gorin's next door. Across the street, there's a Publix, Kroger, Panda Express, Cici's, Smoothie King, and maybe one or two more restaurants. For fundraising, I have asked that a special showing for Catch Your Mind be arranged for us. The idea is that we would be able to sell tickets at our school, but that money would mostly go to us for fundraising purposes. However, I still need confirmation on that. Ah, logistics. There'll be more soon. Thanks for the interest! |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
Change of plans. My team's robot (and therefore the ball) won't be there until Saturday at the earliest. Sorry!

Re: Georgia teams, please read
So, are we going to need to be there for the entire weekend...or can we just leave our robots there and the management has responsibility?
|
Re: Georgia teams, please read
No one has to show up for the entire weekend (or the entire day) As I mentioned before, I think my team's planning on Saturday, and a North Gwinnett mom has contacted me about Friday, and possibly some other days, depending. So you can either double up with one of us, which is perfectly fine, we can do a little scrimmaging, or if you really want, there's always Sunday.
If you want to leave your robot in the theatre, it's a personal choice. My team's only bringing it for Saturday, just in case some kid decides that he wants to see where the pretty purple wire goes and accidentally breaks something (not that we have a purple wire...:o ) No one's going to steal the robot, but if you leave it in the theatre, people are probably going to touch it and well...stuff can happen. It really is up to you though. |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
OH...I thought the management was going to take responsibility for it. Uh..ok. I'll let you know by tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Georgia teams, please read
Is 1379 getting in on this? Especially since they could carry the robot there by hand from the school... There is not an abundance of their active members on the Facebook group, they may not have picked up on this event unless someone contacted them directly.

Re: Georgia teams, please read
1379 is norcross correct? I am not for sure if they are in on this or not.
|
Re: Georgia teams, please read
Yes, 1379 is Norcross. The theater is just around the corner from the school.
Send me a PM if you need contact info for them. |
Re: Georgia teams, please read
can anyone give more detailed info?
Who is confimred going? What date/times are you going (12:20 fri? sat?) Is there a specific place where robots will be displayed? are you just leaving someone w/ the bot, or are you not planning to watch the movie? what are the ticket costs? |

Tomorrow I have to work out details with the theatre management, but if all goes well (and I'll post on here), then 1771's taking Friday after school, and 2415's taking Saturday. As for your last three questions Nancy...theatre management. Sorry. |
