van stolen -metro detroit

Hi all. So, if you live in the metro detroit area and see an old silver caravan with a 910 sticker on the back of it, call the police. I really want my sticker back. Oh , and that full tank of gas i just put in. :(

The Caravan is (was) made by Dodge, IIRC.

Hope you find it... did you contact the police?

Our trailer was broken into about a year back... the only thing they stole was our brand-new laptop. Since it was worth less than the deductible on the insurance we didn't even report it >.<

Dude that sucks... did insurance pay anything?

tdlrali: Yeah our van got broken into in Washington DC once... they took a CB radio, a GPS, a portable xm radio... but the deductible was barely less than the total. Insurance sucks.

We have the technology...we can rebuild that sticker, even better than before.
Bummer about the van though, some doofus wanted a joyride and it leaves you without wheels, it's not just.

Re: van stolen -metro detroit

I was driving a rental car this weekend with a GPS unit bolted in. When I wanted to leave the car and go into the hotel for the night, I couldn't figure out how to remove it. I made sure I parked in front under a great big light. The next morning there was a nice warning attached to my driver's window by the police reminding me to take all my valuables with me when I left the car. I called the # on the GPS system and asked - how - I could remove the system and the guy said, "you can't - it's bolted in." Yup.

So - I covered it with a well-used wrinkled fast food bag that had golden arches on it for the next couple of days. Other than setting off the alarm system, it worked like a charm. I didn't get any more warnings from the police and no one took the system.

Please note that I don't encourage anyone to stick a paper bag on top of a GPS system and call it safe because it isn't. The word, removable, would play a helpful role here, methinks.

Hold on one second. You actually had police give you a warning to help you out. What fantasy land was this? I'm moving.

Yup, I was pretty impressed.

That does it John. When you get your next van, you'll need to cover it with "well-used wrinkled fast food bags" and they'll never figure it out! I'd start saving them right now if I was you!
