Size and Weight of Components
I don't care very much at all about what magic happens inside to make the robots go -- but I have to find a place to stick all of this stuff on our new and old machines.
Can one of the beta test teams please share information about the overall dimensions and weight of each of the components? |
Re: Size and Weight of Components
Weight is not much, it will be more than it used to be, but the heaviest thing is 3 lbs. I don't know exact dimensions but I can say that it is very managable, we have no problem getting it into our Rack and Roll robot.

Re: Size and Weight of Components
I was able to find the weights and dimensions of all the components on the FIRST WPI site. NI actually has CAD files of similar cRIO's on their site. I used them when making this chassis.
If my team has access to it this weekend I'll try and get some weights and measures. |

We are using our 08 practice 'bot, which like our real 'bot, has two decks for electronics. For the demo 'bot we need to increase the size of the upper deck. It will now be the same size as our competition 'bot's. We also need to re-arrainge some things but that is to be expected. Bottom line: yes the stuff is larger, but it is not huge. The change should be managable for most robots. |
Re: Size and Weight of Components
Since I sent these dimensions in an email discussion (electrical board layout) yesterday, I'll copypasta them here
Part Size Website(source) cRio 11" x 3.5" x 2.5" http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/crio.html Digital Sidecar 3" x 5" x 1" http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/digitalsidecar.html Power Distro board 9" x 5.75" x 1.75" http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/powerdistribution.html Linksys WGA600N Gaming adaptor 4.33" x 4.33" x 1.26" http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...=4757740536B02 I guessed the gaming adapter from beta tester 1629's youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8WE2i6GnXU I think the camera is the Axis 206 and is 3,35" x 2,17" x 1,34" according to this website http://www.axis.com/products/cam_206/dimensions.htm Again, I have never personally measured these components, just going off of website specs. Hopefully, a beta team can check these numbers and add some weights. Spec weights are available if you follow the links (just remember to add the modules and bumpers on the cRio) I wonder if we can remove unused parts for weight? We will just have to wait for the new rules. |
Re: Size and Weight of Components
The question was asked yesterday on the public forum. The answer (for size) is best found at http://forums.usfirst.org/showpost.p...98&postcount=3

Re: Size and Weight of Components
OK the data you have all been waiting for:
cRio with 5 modules 1740gm cRio with no modules 910gm 9201 module 130gm 9403 module 130gm 9472 module 130gm analog bumper 25gm pneumatics bumper 25gm Distribution Block 727gm Digital Side Car 95gm Digital Side Car Cable 190gm Radio 135gm All weights are +or- 5gm as that is the tolerance on the balance we used. For dimensions I would refer to the CAD files mentioned above. Note that there are many required components such as victors and main breakers that are not on this list. The camera and related equipment are still on our demo board. They will be weighed when we move them to the robot, but that won't be for a while yet. I will eventually post this on the official forum, but there seems to be an issue with my ID. |

It would probably be wise to add at least 1.5-2 inches to that dimension to account for the various items that plug in to the top |

The cRIO includes drivers for 8 solenoids, which would normally be handled by up to 4 spikes. |
Re: Size and Weight of Components
For the IFI system:
Robot Controller: 330 grams 2007 or 2008 radio: 175 grams Backup Battery: 165 grams Spike: 50 grams Breaker panel: 120 grams Rockwell Power Distribution Block: 160 grams 40 amp breaker panel: 300 grams |
Re: Size and Weight of Components
Just Curious - Has FIRST mentioned what will not be provided year over year in the controller kit? So if you start out with a full set - they won't send you another cRIO kit the following year?
Just wondering what other people have heard. |
