I am sure that they will have quite a bit to show us. Do a little research and you will see what some of the teams coming to this have to offer. I can think of a few that i wouldn't mind being paired with.:) Not saying that we wont have anything to show you though :)

The most convenient place (albeit, a bit pricey relatively speaking) is the Marriot right next door:
http://www.ctconventions.com/visitors/lodging.php

In that picture, the Convention Center is on the right of the picture behind the Marriot.
I stayed there last year, & it was a 5 minute walk down elevators/stairs from my hotel room to the pits.
With that luxury comes a bit of a price jump from other surrounding hotels ( I would have to assume) but it's worth it imho.
(Parking in the garage right next door is a bit pricey as well so be warned.)

I may actually stay there again this year since I hate waking up early in the morning & I live about an hour away from Hartford. :yikes:

Unfortunately we didnt have any last year. :( The price for the candy to be made has gone too high. I hope it goes down soon. Cause that chocolate was so godly. I so hope we have it this year.

We are staying like 10 mins away at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Manchester, Connecticut. Our mentor was said that it was cheaper to be 10 mins out rather then being in Hartford itself.

Has anyone ever used the public transportation system from BDL to get to the convention center area?

I also read something about a free shuttle that makes the rounds in the area of the convention center with stops near several hotels included. Is that system sufficient to provide transportation for teams during rush hour? Can anyone tell me how long it it takes the shuttle to make the loop?

Just curious...an option 1902 might consider to save on travel expenses and to be green!

Re: 2009 Connecticut Regional

I have not taken the bus from the airport, but it seems like a reasonable option for a team given there is enough space on the bus for people and luggage. You may have to split up depending on the size of your group.

I have ridden the Star Shuttle. This is the free bus that makes a loop around downtown Hartford. Here is the map from CT Transit. It appears that Saturday morning may be your only issue if you plan on taking it across downtown to get to competition. Much of the time the Fuel Cell Bus is running this route. Its a great piece of new green technology for the kids to experience.

Downtown Hartford is quite small and reasonable to walk across, but there are no guarantees as to the weather you will be walking in. The last weekend in March around here could be 60 and sunny,... or snowing.

I was looking over the teams going to CT during Boston and it hit me how competitive the regional is going to be this year. There are more than a few powerhouse teams making their debut in week five, in addition to several who are already regional champions this season.

I'm looking forward to being there for part of Friday and all day Saturday. It should be quite the competition.

Hot off the presses! The Load-in/Load-Out information for the CT FIRST Robotics Regional Competition can now be found on our website, www.ctfirst.org/frc, in the section "For Teams".

Team 1991's here and ready to hold our own with all the low numbered teams and regional champs!!!

Also, we WILL be hosting our Fireball again, Friday after the events. We encourage all teams to sign up to go! We have good food, a halo tournament, music, and a possible version of a soccer game with the orbit balls!

Any team that went last year can't vouch that it's fun!

Send me an email at flanamatt@live.com if you're interested!

Sundance Kid 10-03-2009 15:42

Re: 2009 Connecticut Regional

Yes, Connecticut will be very comeptitve with 5 Regional Champs, 8 Semi Finalists, and 7 Quarter Finalists (to date) not to mention a whole slew of teams that are appearing in their first or only Regional and waiting to knock them down a few notches. Bring extra parts as it should prove to be a "battle ground".

Team 1991 once again be hosting it's FIREBALL - the "unofficial" team social event at the Connecticut Regional. Last year we had approximatley 30 teams show up for a great time and we will continue that again this year.

For more information, or if interested send an email to Flanamana (above post) at flanamatt@live.com or visit http://www.team1991.com/fireball.html
if you're interested!

It will be Friday night from 7-11pm. It is offsite, so you will need your own transportation to/from the event. Plenty of space is available as we have mutiple rooms/gyms.

So all of you out of town teams or first timers to the Connecticut Regional, since you'll already be spending the night in the area, why not come out for a great time.

And/or can we set up a local wifi connection? I know we couldn't at Boston, but some regionals have allowed it.

Power is not available in the stands (please do not arrange for power in the stands). Teams are free to use laptops only if they are powered by batteries.

Wow, that's news to me! Haha...I didn't realize our team leader was coordinating with other teams for filling the bus. Too bad us mentors will be flying down...we will be missing out on ALL the fun! ;)

I think I can feel the ground moving from all of the CT regional teams shaking in their boots.

I hope to get a final e-mail out to the team leaders tonight so please make sure it gets distributed to those on the teams who need to know!
Info is on our website, www.ctfirst.org/frc - check out the FOR TEAMS section, especially the Load In procedures so you are prepared for Thursday morning!

Bacon is boarding a aeroplane for Connecticut tomorrow morning! We're excited! Always great to visit new places and meet new people and what better way to do that than through FIRST!

On their way to the Connecticut regional team 48 Delphi E.L.I.T.E. has made a day stop in NYC and will be heading out later to finish the last leg of their trip.

While in New York they are making an attempt to be seen on the today show this morning. Look for the FIRST logo in the crowd if your a morning person.

Good luck this weekend and have fun!

I just got back from the venue, & all I have to say is that when I left:

The field was ready to go. :)
The game pieces looked so peaceful sitting in their little bin homes - maybe even a little too peaceful.:yikes:
The pits were eerily quiet.
And last but not least, we can rejoice a bit because...

The snow is not here! YAY!!!
(Sorry FL teams, no snow for your memories of CT this year...yet. ;))

All in all, it seems to be shaping up to be a great regional event!

I'll see everyone there tomorrow - and yell at you if you're not wearing safety glasses as part of my job - but I really don't like yelling, so please wear them!!
K?
Thx!

Good luck everyone, get some good sleep tonight, and in the classic words of FIRST:
GO TEAMS!

It's been too long since I last attended the Connecticut Regional! I wish the best of luck to everyone - especially my old team, The Who'sCTEKS (team 716).
Oh how I wish I could be there!

Hope you are enjoying the New England weather, Wendy. :p

EDIT: is anyone doing a webcast of this event? (sorry if it's been posted elsewhere)
