Hopefully we will see a return of these great Canadian teams in the future to support Canada's second regional (or as I wish for every year Waterloo is moved to a earlier week).

The largest factor behind the low registration numbers at Waterloo this year is the fact that the event is scheduled at the tail end of the Ontario march break. As such any teacher wanting to bring their team would have to be willing to give up the three final days of their vacation. This prospect was not attractive to many teams. As a result there are 10 Canadian teams attending Finger Lakes in week 2, most of whom have told our planning committee they would attend Waterloo if it was on a different weekend.

The Waterloo Regional has always been one of our favorite Regionals. It has been the hallmark of Gracious Professionalism each year we have attended. The teams, volunteers and organizational staff have always made us feel at home and gone out of their way to see that everything was running smoothly. As one of the team members said in an earlier post, we won't be attending. There was a lot of discussion as to how we might be able to afford going to Waterloo but we could not come up with the funds. This is due to having lost two of our sponsors and our main sponsor (GM) cutting back on funding also. We wish the best to all the teams competing at Waterloo and hope to return in 2010.
