VEX Signal Splitter (Part Number 276-2217)

Hi,
I'm new to this, and have a question about the VEX Signal Splitter (Part Number 276-2217), The instructions they give says to use the 7.2 volt battery pack, a normal RC receiver uses 4.8 volt packs, can you use the lower voltage pack? Has any one opened one of these units to look inside?
Regards,
Gerald

Re: VEX Signal Splitter (Part Number 276-2217)

We used them for our underwater robots for the NURC this past summer. We used Banebots speed controllers that have a BEC (battery eliminator circuit), which provides the 5v necessary to operate the splitter. We removed the battery connector, shortened the LED leads, and removed the power switch from the signal splitters, as well as taking them out of the plastic housing, to save space in the crowded robot hulls. We used them tethered to the transmitter, without a receiver.

There are a couple pictures of the insides of the signal splitter here

Thanks Jim,
That is what I wanted. I had figured that since normal RC worked on 4.8volts that the VEX unit mite too. I had picked up a couple of the replacement transformer/receiver units cheap and want to use them with my RC boats.
Regards,
Gerald
