FIRST/CD Ventrilo

Today I just got the information/login for a Ventrilo server. Basically, Ventrilo [http://www.ventrilo.com] is a voice program were you can talk with multiple people in different "channels", or rooms. It's free to download and use. If you have issues installing or configuring your client, don't hesitate to ask for help here.

I hope this becomes a valuable resource to the community. No rules are posted yet, but common sense and GP should tell you what is and isn't acceptable. I'm still working on adding channels, changing a few settings, etc, and I'll also be needing a few Server Admins/Mods to help keep the peace, so if you're interested, send me a PM.

Wow, I step away for a few weeks in Sept. and missed this! Great idea. I can particularly imagine high traffic during webcasts and kickoffs though. How many client slots are avaialble?

Currently set at 50, though it can go up higher if we exceed that number.

The original discussion was in Chit-Chat, so a lot of people missed it.

I didn't think about webcasts and whatnot! TBA, Gameday, Off-Season, etc.

This should be a very helpful tool to help many teams. . . I can see this being specifically helpful when the new control system comes out. You can ask a question and get an instant response. Also will be nice during the build season.

I just recently heard from someone, that there was a Vent before, but it was never used.

I'm hoping this goes over well this time. MaxFrag was gracious enough to donate this server to us. I know CD in general is slow before December, but I just want to make sure people know about it. Voice can be very helpful, not to mention you can make new friends and whatnot.

I don't want to sound paranoid or anything. If you need any help setting up the program, don't hesitate to contact me.

Unfortunately, my laptop failed.... again.... so I'm running Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) until I can recover my Windows installation. That means I won't be able to join to server for a while, since neither my WINE nor Crossover wants to make it work.

Yeah, a lot of people that frequent the server don't actually talk much, instead using the built-in chat function. Again, if you need help setting up your microphone, don't hesitate to pester me!

I'm currently on Ubuntu, so I can hear people talking, but can't talk back. Eventually I'll switch back to Windows. I can't wait as it gets closer to Kick-Off, when it'll start getting busy.

It looks like our slots got bumped down to only 12. Hopefully we don't lose this due to lack of activity....

I've stuck my head in once or twice, but I don't have a mic on my primary machine right now, and only have speakers if I turn on the surround sound(homemade HTPC setup)...

i haven't had a mic at all but i'm still on chatting with David and others. there is an AIM like chat thing you can use

I've got Windows reinstalled, so now I can talk. Whoo!

Anyway, I just got a great idea. If your team needs their own channel for one reason or another (example, distant meetings), just PM me with your team number, a username, and password you want to use.

After being informed that people couldn't connect, I logged into the control panel to find out that the server has been pulled. :( This was the second attempt by somebody to get a server going, and while it always sounds like a good idea and people back it, the lack of activity kills it.

Maybe there will be a day when people use this awesome resource, but my attempt was apparently not good enough.

It was a valiant attempt, I back it fully. My ventrilo that is fully paid for that me and my friends use for gaming is open to everyone to join! just check the banner in my signature, Im going to change the channels so they are appropriet for FIRST. Feel free to come in and join! Hope to see you there!
