Now matter how many times you tell them...

Ok,

The team was told to follow the directions step by step, but .....

They decided to update the firmware to rev 2008-10-29a BEFORE they did the out of the box bench top test. Now when we have the dongle set to disable, the system and mode both read invalid when we turn on power. Is there any way to get an old version of the firmware? And the victors keep flashing orange when we switch to the enabled position.

Any advice on what to do other than hang them up by their thumbs?

Ann

I recommend their toes.

Your issue is out of my ken, hopefully someone else will answer. In the mean time, please post more detailed information:

What steps did they do?
Are the team numbers set correctly on the cRIO and the DS?

I cannot help you with the firmware but it does take 30 seconds to a minute to enable (disable is instantanious) so be patient, also make sure that your ips are set correctly.

Do any of the tips in this thread help: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=10511

The team there also updated early and eventually got it working.

Can you clarify what you mean by enable. Do you mean turn on? The transition from disable to enable on a fully communicating system is instantaneous.

Did you reflash the cRIO to match the DS revision?
When you update one I believe you must update the other to match or they won't work together.

By enable I mean flip the doggle switch and in turn (30 seconds to a minute later) the victor lights will stop flashing.

Thanks for the responses. I will try some of these ideas in the morning. Maybe I can use this as an excuse to get my hands on it (she says with an evil grin).

Mark is correct. The communication protocol between the "out of the box" DS firmware and the "out of the box" cRIO image is not compatible with the updated code. Both boxes must be updated at the same time in order for them to keep talking to each other.

Thanks for all your help. We are now back in business with tank drive going. They will have the chance to redeem themselves by completing the bench top tests without deviating from the documentation steps OR ELSE....

We had the same problem - could please you post exactly how you managed to solve this one?
