Re: CAD files for the new control system

I posted all current links on the Hardware page of http://controlsystem.neofra.com. I'll keep updating this as the official stuff continues to be released.

If you create an account at www.3dcontentcentral.com, you can upload a 2008 SolidWorks model file and then eveyone would be able to download it as a 2007 model file or 2008 model file format. Use the "FIRST Robotics" category.

If you want to use the STEP files in SolidWorks, select STEP for Filetype on Open.

Use Tools, Mass Properties. Check the Assign Mass Properties box to enter the total mass of your assembly.

Thanks Marie, I did that and got them uploaded. The mass is also accurate, at least as close as I can get without them in front of me. I used the masses listed on andymark for the DSC and the PD board, and the mass on Newegg for the wireless adapter. Here are links to the updated files. I think that ed's cRIO and modules are much better to use, so I haven't done anything to those. Hope these help everyone.

Thank you for sharing your work in SolidWorks on www.3dcontentcentral.com. With the overall foot print and mass, teams will have enough information to incorporate the new control system into their design.

When you have a project to complete in 6 weeks, you have to determine where is your value added in the design. It is not making every detail on a purchased part - you are not physically changing the NI controller. Spend your design time creating the components you have to machine and to make certain your overall assembly will make the weight limitation.

Tip: Account for the weight on all purchase parts - including fasteners. For one of the battlebot robots I just wrote about in Robot Magazine, there were 45 pounds for screws, nuts, and washers... Marie

I agree wholeheartedly; I would even prefer less featured models as they are easier on the computer, which really adds up in big assemblies on slower computers.

Here is the NI controller saved as one part file on www.3dcontentcentral.com Much smaller in file size.
