CAD files for the new control system
Does anyone have CAD files (with mounting holes) of the new control system? I mean all of the parts.
thanks, Vivek |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
Not yet. Maybe next monday when I get back into the Lab I can do some CAD. If I get it done, I'll see about getting it hosted for all.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
That would be awesome!! Thanks!
But wait, I think I saw some of the components already CADed in the introduction guides in the new control system section of USFIRST? |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
This is somewhat of a bump post but everyone I've talked to regarding the CAD has asked me to send them a copy if they ever get it. :P
If anyone has it, it would be appreciated. thanks, vivek |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
FIRSTbase doesn't have the 2009 KoP released yet.
It says it's coming in January. |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
Hey guys, really sorry about the delay. Turns out the controls for our team haven't even showed up yet, nor have I had time with finals to make it to the lab. The moment I do get the CAD (and I will...), I'll make sure it gets up here.
Sorry! |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
Thanks Craig, we haven't gotten our controls either. Please include the mounting holes.
thanks, Vivek p.s. Good luck with finals! |

Re: CAD files for the new control system
NI has consulted with FIRST and we plan to release the CAD drawings of the cRIO-FRC from NI R&D. The drawings will be posted on www.ni.com/FIRST early next week.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
Will these drawings be just for the cRIO or for all of the other components as well?
thanks, vivek |

Re: CAD files for the new control system
The CAD files for the cRIO are up (2D and 3D) at the above link. Just go to the "documents" tab.
It seems all we still need are the power distribution/breaker panel and the I/O sidecar. Has anyone found these? EDIT: This document has pictures and schematics: http://usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/3-FRC%20Control%20System-Component-Datasheets-Rev-0-5a.pdf. |

Re: CAD files for the new control system
I'm going to get started with my mounting board. I still need the distro block, sidecars, and wireless adaptor. If anyone has them (or even just the mounting hole location on relation to the sides), they would be much appreciated.
thanks, Vivek |

Ah, thank you. I even had it downloaded already. :yikes: I hope I use up all of my stupid reserves before build season.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
Well, I made some dummy files for the sidecar and the power distribution board.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
We have been cadding away in our lab, and we have the PD board, the DSC, and the wireless bridge almost entirely done. Once they are finalized and checked, I will post a zip here. We will most likely also do the breakout boards and the cRIO modules since they aren't included in the cRIO CAD. Are there any quick requests, I'll be monitoring while we work tomorrow? Check back tomorrow evening for at least the DSC, PD, and Wireless files.
Oh, and we use Solid Works, but I know not everyone does. What file types would be best to include to make everyone happy? .IGES and .SLDPRT will definitely be included, but are there any others that Solid Works can save to that would be convenient for others? |

Re: CAD files for the new control system
STEP and IGES are probably the most common universal CAD files.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
I have the cRIO-FRC and the I/O modules nearly done. I expect to post them in the FirstCadLibrary on Thursday evening. I do everything in Inventor and export to IGES, ACIS, and STEP.

Ok, here I have a zip of the following files, each with .sldasm (with the part files too) .igs, and .step. The solidworks files are 2008, I'm going to try to figure out how to make them 2007 soon.
cRIO modules Wireless Bridge Digital Sidecar Power Distribution Board All holes should be in the correct place, for the PD and DSC we used the drawings in Ch. 3 to make them. I can personally guarantee those to be correct. Ed, would you like to use the PD and DSC files for the database or would you prefer to make them or get them from somewhere else? Hope these help everyone in their CAD next year! |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
cRio's up on FIRST CAD library.
Wow it's detailed. Good job Mr. Sparks! |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
The cRIO and the I/O modules are now available on the FirstCadLibrary. Click on the "What's new" link or go to the "Electrical" Library.
The Inventor model is weight accurate and detailed. |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
Really detailed, much better than what I put together there. Great model! Thanks Ed.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
If you create an account at www.3dcontentcentral.com, you can upload a 2008 SolidWorks model file and then eveyone would be able to download it as a 2007 model file or 2008 model file format. Use the "FIRST Robotics" category.
If you want to use the STEP files in SolidWorks, select STEP for Filetype on Open. Use Tools, Mass Properties. Check the Assign Mass Properties box to enter the total mass of your assembly. Marie |
Re: CAD files for the new control system
I posted all current links on the Hardware page of http://controlsystem.neofra.com. I'll keep updating this as the official stuff continues to be released.

Re: CAD files for the new control system
Thank you for sharing your work in SolidWorks on www.3dcontentcentral.com. With the overall foot print and mass, teams will have enough information to incorporate the new control system into their design.
When you have a project to complete in 6 weeks, you have to determine where is your value added in the design. It is not making every detail on a purchased part - you are not physically changing the NI controller. Spend your design time creating the components you have to machine and to make certain your overall assembly will make the weight limitation. Tip: Account for the weight on all purchase parts - including fasteners. For one of the battlebot robots I just wrote about in Robot Magazine, there were 45 pounds for screws, nuts, and washers... Here is the NI controller saved as one part file on www.3dcontentcentral.com Much smaller in file size.
