Looking for a FIRST Team near by

I just moved to San Jose, CA for an internship with Cisco Systems, and do not know what the easiest way to find a near by FIRST Team would be. I would like to help mentor. I live in zip code 95133, and work in in zip code 95134. Thanks for any help or direction!

Let's see here...

FIRST's site has a list of CA teams. Find the ones in San Jose high schools (easily found with, say a Google search).

mentorsearch.us is also a good resource. However, it is down for maintenance right now.

You could also find the Senior Mentor for that area and contact them.

Why looky that, looks like I found you your second job. That is former team 1120 btw. They are trying to restart their FIRST program.

Team 972 in Los Gatos really needs more help too. They just barely returned last year. Great group of people, with an even more amazing machine shop.

Bummer, too bad you are that far away. We would love to have you join us, but Elk Grove is a two hour drive each way:mad: . Now, if you would like to do that commute........

• Find your local Regional staff. Regional Directors are the primary FIRST representative in the field, working to support sustainable teams and events. They can connect you if there are Senior Mentors or VISTA volunteers in your area, and to the local Regional Planning Committee: http://www.usfirst.org/regionalcontact.aspx

Does anyone know how to contact this user? I would love to help, but I sent a private message and he has one post and his last activity was on 9/15.

Thanks for all the help!

He might accept email. Look in his public profile.

There's a bunch of teams in the San Jose area. If you feel like a fairly short drive, there's also team 114 (just lost most of their senor members) north on 280 in Los Altos, as well as the Mountain View team.

I know this probably will not help your situation right now, but if more people get involved, it may solve these problems in the future.

I've created a web site promoting FIRST to schools that are not already involved. I use lots of videos and have forums for discussions. I also have a map feature that any one can add a marker. I added this feature for just this type of situation. Check it out at:

www.firstobjective.org

It's free to join; no sponsors and no spam.

Thanks,

No idea how to contact them.

Try and contact Ceal Craig of the WRRF, she was a former mentor of 1120, and will also (probably) be able to tell you of any other teams in the area in need of mentors.

I'm one of the mentors for Team 1120. They're registered for San Diego and need mentors badly. I can get you started if you're interested. Also, a lot of teams will be at the WRRF workshops this coming Saturday, Dec 13, held at the Santa Clara University Engineering Dept. www.WRRF.org

Fresno.....sounds like your just making words up now! :p

I am not from the area. I am here for a Cisco internship, and I am from Rochester, NY so I have no car. So a short drive, even a really quick drive is a long bike ride and an even longer walk. I found team 581, which looks nice because they are close by, but I would really like to help 1120 since they seem like they are in dire need, but will be difficult to get to.

I just have this hard decision feeling....same as when I was buying a car....hmmm....

Thanks guys!
