Kit of Parts

Hey guys! I haven't been around for a while.. and I have been trying to keep in contact with my team, but I have just found out about the shipping cost for the Kit of Parts. Now this cost has made it not possible for us to attend a second regional, and as you can probably tell I'm a little dissapointed about that.

My question to you guys is if it is possible to pick up the Kit of Parts instead of having it shipped to our local kickoff. and if so where would we have to pick it up from?

If any of you guys know it would be wonderful, I searched for a while and couldn't find out anything.

I know that our team "mentor", thats what i call him; he is just one of our teachers, goes and picks up our KOP

I thought having the kit of parts shipped to your kickoff location was free?

What shipping cost are you referring too? I never heard of one.

Go to this link on the FIRST website. The information you need for Kickoff is located there. I believe there is onlly one site in Canada (Toronto), but you can designate a surrogate team to pick it up for you. You need to make arrangements by Dec. 31st.

I was told that there was a new cost to get the kit of parts to the kickoffs because of the crisis GM is in. I was told that there was a new $1500 cost added to the kit of parts to get it to the kickoffs.

Am I wrong?

http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc...nt.aspx?id=454 = Calendar of Important Dates. You can see there you had until December 5th to decided where you were going to pick up your kit of parts.

Never heard of any additional prices added to the kit of parts. . . . . . I would check your sources. . . Is this only for Canada teams??

It isn't FIRST-wide, that's for sure. Normal FRC procedure is that a) you pick up the kit at your local Kickoff, or b) you send some other team to do that, or c) you have it shipped to you (which I believe you pay for).

If there is something like that, EVERYONE would want to/need to know. Because everyone hasn't been told, I can think of two possible scenarios: 1) whoever told you this is flat-out wrong, or 2) it's confined to one area.

I don't see the connection between GM and the KOP. As far as I know GM has nothing to do with shipping the KOP and I don't think they usually supply parts to the KOP...

never heard of it, is it a Canadian thing only?

Re: Kit of Parts

Is anyone else here having there kit shipped direct to the "my site" thing? Can you give me a price as to the amount you paid for that?

Canadian teams, can anyone confirm or deny what I am saying?

This is what happens when I'm out of the loop for a month   :( :(

Rather than speculation, anyone after me, please just post facts.

This thread is already out of control, please lets keep it 100% facts. If you cannot verify it and show your source, don't post it. Thanks.

Re: Kit of Parts

Here are some facts: A little over a month ago, Canadian teams got an email from FIRST Robotics Canada, stating that teams would be responsible for taxes and brokerage fees involved in getting their Kit of Parts across the border and to the local kickoff. Canadian teams have never had to pay anything in the past, and it was insinuated that General Motors of Canada had something to do with this and that their support in this regard was being withdrawn this year.

I can't say for sure if this is representative of the real situation since this communication came from FIRST Robotics Canada, not FIRST itself, but I'll be disappointed if it is - I thought that half the point of local kickoffs is for teams to be able to pick up their kits without paying any additional costs.

There's nothing wrong with calling US FIRST tomorrow.

That was the info I was looking for. Thanks Pat.

Like I said, this is what I get for missing out on a month of robotics lol. I just wanted to clarify everything for myself, considering I am once again unable to reach my team because of work related things.
