Drive train for 2009 game
Out of pure curiosity I was wondering about other teams and why they use omni, tank, etc..
Does your team always use one or the other? Does it change for each game? -If so, how do you decide which set up? Do make the same decisions about the control system? -One vs two controllers? -Arm controls? -Misc. controls? After reading this post will your team think about changing the way they make these decision? Anything else? Do you use design matrices?(Or another type of design table/chart?) Thanks for reading. |
Re: Drive train for 2009 game
It depends on the game, but we have used an informal decision matrix the past couple years. Also last year there were a couple different drivetrain ideas, and a sort of novel control idea for the drivetrain we didn't use, ended up on the other drivetrain that we did use. It won an award too. You never know what you'll come up with, so keep an open mind.

Re: Drive train for 2009 game
For many teams, it is decision of many factors: manufacturing resources, time constraints, game strategy, cost, manipulator design, etc.
I tend to think it is good to use what you know for certain will get the job done (and that you can make within your means), then do something just a little bit spiffy with it if you feel you have the time. Go with what has worked for you before, modify it to suit the current need, and fix it's shortfalls from the previous implementation. If nothing you've done before even remotely suits the current need, figure out the simplest way to accomplish the new task effectively. I see many teams attempt very ambitious systems and fail, because it was beyond their design skill and manufacturing abilities. |

I agree with Sanddrag that it all depends on your manufacturing abilities. A 6wd has been a good choice for many teams in the past. -RC |

Have fun with it and don't hesitate to post up on here what designs you have for feedback.:) Oh and I guess 03 could apply as well....as will 09:rolleyes: Yay rough terrain! |
