windows mobile 6.1 scouting

recently I got a windows mobile enabled phone. This year I'm going to try and make a cool scouting app for it. Does anyone have any experience in developing windows mobile apps?

I know enough visual basic programming to get the job done... I think. We'll see what happens. ;)

personally I have never programmed for Windows Mobile (I have a Windows Mobile 6.1 device as well -- Samsung Omnia), but i know it requires .CAB files rather than .exe or .msi to install .... you also should make a "touch screen" version and a "standard" version because of the varrying of phones. Additonally, wouldn't it be simpler to write a web based app, so you could use it on not only Windows Mobile, but Blackberry OS, iPhone, and Palm OS as well ?

If you are able to get a copy of Visual Studio 2008 it has development tools for Windows Mobile 6.1 in it. The only issue is that the express editions do not support this feature. But then you would have your choice of whatever language you wanted to use, C#, C++, VB, etc.

I too just got the Samsung omnia and I love it! But I'm definitely going to make a finger friendly app as well as a standard smart phone app.

I didn't even think of doing a web based app. I'm a little shaky on php and mysql but I'll read up on it and see what happens.

I have a copy of VB 2008 Pro and I've been playing around with it but I can't get the .NET 3.5 deployment tool on my phone; I keep getting an error message and I'm getting frustrated

Nick,

My Team, team 1676, annually creates a PHP-MySQL database for scouting at each regional we're going to. If you want we can send you what we make, and we'll try to code it "cell-phone friendly"

PM me what regionals you're going to to see if we're going to the same ones or not...
