Our team kinda assembled the kit together. Problem is... most of the screws and such didn't match... so we had to make do/use whatever we felt was necessary to create the camera mount assembly.

The problem still lies in getting the cRIO to recognize the stupid camera...

We use the pdf from FIRST to assembly ours.

We had to drill out the servo horns to attach to the pan/tilt kit.

We mounted on our robot. We had some difficulty getting CRio to recognize at first but the students read the manual and got it going. We had it searching and following for the green and pink swatches in the shop yesterday. We have not decided how we will use it yet.

Guys the camera pan/tilt is a bit hard to ensemble... The best thing is to take the camera from 2007 (teams that have) take of the camera... Drill a 4mm hole in the middle and connect the AXIS camera. i tried it and it works perfectly.
BTW... The FIRST didn't provide all the materials in the pan\tilt kit like screws for example, so i suggest using 3-4mm screws.

The camera chassis is electrically grounded. The rules require that the ground be isolated from the robot. This is a safety issue and the inspectors will check for isolation between the robot chassis and negative battery at competition.

It looks like the best way to do this is mount the camera to a piece of plastic with the mount inside the square so that no camera metal contacts the pan tilt metal. You can attach this small piece of plastic to the pan/tile metal using nylon screws and nuts. As you build up your electrical system it's always a good idea to verify isolation from time to time. I can tell you from first hand experience that it's not a pretty sight to watch a servo cable catch fire and burn at competition!

but, yeah the instructions are pretty crappy. New ones possibly might arrive soon, but I'm more inclined to just use the old pan/tilt assembly as a reference.

as for looking for another one, just use Google. (I think it's called Axis 206 camera?) If yes, then it looks like a new one will be upwards of $100+

To the teams that got this correctly configured and are programming in WindRiver...

Has anyone gotten the VisionServo program working with the camera plugged in?..

Do you have any detail pictures of the servo horn? I'm hesitant to drill holes in it without checking with somebody else first.

Yikes! Why does this thing have to sit so high? Seems like there's a lot of wasted space between the camera mount and the base, especially if you are trying to mount it in some kind of protected enclosure.

I think others are right - we're going to go with the 2007 setup. It's already assembled, and seems much more robust as well.

(And if you don't have one lying around, they're still available from IFI...)

My team found instructions just fine and I followed em and there's 2 holes on the part that attaches to the camera it fits in either one I'll try to take a pic at our next meting and post em

I was not at school today due to a workshop. I do not have a picture of the servo horn but will take one tomorrow.

We drilled the middle hole of the three holes on each side (if that makes sense) with a drill bit just slightly smaller than the bolt. It was a simple procedure.

We have the camera already set up in the holder (if that's what its called:confused: ) But we don't know how to keep the camera on the attachment. In the back of the main stand, where the camera should be mounted on, we don't know how to make the camera stay on.
There is no places for the screws on the back to go through the camera.
Anyone wanna help us out???

I agree.

After looking at the 3 thumbnail pictures above, it appears there may be a missing plastic frame part that attaches to the camera first that would enable mounting of the camera tilt-pan assembly.

I'm going back into the camera packing box just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I would hate to have to drill and tap new holes into the plastic camera housing, because I'm not sure where the PCB is inside the housing.

Of course, there is always industrial-strength Velcro!

Yeah, i think you have to unbolt that metal mount... otherwise there's no good way to attach it.

Not quite. In 2002 the Zone Zeal goals had retroreflective tape around the top of the center tubes. Targeting on a moving goal. I don't know of any teams who used a targeting system for the game.

On a related camera note, does anyone know where to get a second pan-tilt assembly? The FIRST site does not indicate where we can order a spare.

hey, i'm on a rookie team and we are all learning so if i posted this in the wrong spot please don't get mad :( We got the instruction yesterday on how to build the kits but we have absolutely no clue on how to wire it up and if the code for the motors is in the pre made code that we received. and if its not could someone point me in the right direction on where to find the info for programming the kit in labview? Thank You for helping :)
