What are you doing for the flooring?

The flooring is incredibly expensive--we figured out it would cost us almost $1000 to build a practice field.

What are you doing to simulate the low friction environment?

i've heard linoleum (sp?) works well.......also the material whiteboard is made out of seems to work well

Re: What are you doing for the flooring?

The flooring is commonly used in hotel bathrooms as a cover for walls I believe. Here in vegas many hotels are going up, so if you contact your local general contractor or construction company I'm sure they have pallets of this stuff laying around.

Home Depot in my area sells FRP material (glasliner is a product name) for 27 bucks for a 4'x8' sheet.

Re: What are you doing for the flooring?

The Home depot material is ~ $25 for 8 sheet around here and our local Menards has something similar for ~ $12 a sheet...

Shop around...

Weird, we got quoted $80 for that. Heading over now to check it out.

Be careful - even linoleum and formica give more traction than the FRP does... you may be surprised if you don't at least buy one sheet and practice sharting and stopping on it.

Check Lowes too- our HD said they didn't carry it but Lowes did.

So, if teams buy the stuff from HD or Lowes, what is the average cost for a fairly good sized driving portion?

We went there; they'd misquoted us and we got it for $27! Thanks crew!

We got all of the flooring for free but we have to give it back when we are done.

Some hockey rinks use this same material.

Re: What are you doing for the flooring?

Sorry, most practice rinks or shooting areas in hockey rinks use this material..

Re: What are you doing for the flooring?

As noted in the January 6 update to Bill's Blog, a standard linoleum tile floor is a very good approximation of the "Regolith" flooring material. During development, we found that a waxed floor game performance characteristics that were within about 5% of the official material. That seems to be good enough for most development efforts, and should make for a very reasonable alternative for teams that don't want to purchase enough of the plastic material for an entire floor.

Re: What are you doing for the flooring?

An idea we had was to go to lowes, home depot, or whatever and then contact other local teams in the area and build a collective practice field. With four or five teams sharing the cost, it will probably be easier. Still waiting for the other teams to reply to us, though.
