Problem with the website or me???

You have to use an IRC client to get to the chat, mibbit.com is a web based chat service.

Re: Chat Room

As it looks like the current room (freenode #firstrobotics) I'd say lets try to use that one, I'd rather not have to re-invent the wheel unless it's necessary. Though maybe we should find a place to post some of the information so google can get it? I couldn't find it after a bunch of google searching, and looking through the forums here.

Freenode is a good server for FIRST, being intended for free (that is, open source) software and other "peer directed projects". There are a number of FIRST-related channels, FRC, FLL, etc.

See my footer (AAA_awright on Freenode IRC chat. (Join us at ##FRC on irc.freenode.net)) and http://java.freenode.net .

##FRC is another channel which is much smaller then #firstrobotics through, why should we spilt the teams?

And Teamspea normally fails due to no one checking if anyone is on. I prefer skype (name veryemonemo) and I'm up for a chat whenever I'm actually there.

Because the "ops" which you praise are actually horrible at their job (no offense).

##FRC is fairly open, anyone can change a topic for news or what not, there are a handful people (including me) able to mute trolls (or ban for join floods), or change channel modes/lock the topic, etc, but none of them stay opped (I find it distracting in a "community" channel).

Regarding TeamSpeak, it has bad operating system support (to it's credit it is getting better), I personally recommend the far superior Mumble.

The #firstrobotics channel at irc.freenode.net has been going since 2001 or so(I don't remember exactly how long) I remember that I joined in 2005 and its still going strong today, I'd encourage everyone to join it as well as the many more specific first channels related to FRC specifically as well as FTC and FLL.

I know some other forum sites have shoutboxes that seem to work like chat rooms, plus mods have their powers in the box as well

plus, everything is documented in a neat way

Re: Chat Room

I think one big thing against the chat boxes is the way IRC integrates into chat programs, also that's a lot of unneeded traffic onto CD(and work for the admins) when everything is already done on a third party system. Its not for everyone I know, but its not hard and a lot of fun. Also as a side note, the IRC chats currently aren't linked officially with CD, just most of us are also on here.

(I'm FalseProphet) And we're to why theres a ##FRC and a #Firstrobotics. AAA_Awright (Nibbles) was a backseat opper who kept trying to report the channel for various percieved rule breaks. (Which I think the channel was started before them). The ops finally got fed up with him and he ran off after banwalking a lot. He then created ##FRC.
The Ops are good at their jobs, I said that in ##FRC not #firstrobotics too so ##FRC is where modship is laccking if anywhere (no offense).

Now that both sides have gotten one say I'd like to make sure you guys don't get started on this again, especially before CD mods have to come clean it up.

<del>Chit chat removed<del>
<ins>Wow, haven't used del tags before</ins>

Like I have always said when I refer people to online chat, I recommend Freenode, and a number of FIRST-related channels on it, but specifically ##FRC. As a matter of policy I do not speak on behalf of others, freely speak my opinion when it is asked or make a suggestion, follow the catalyst role be it on IRC or in a leader position, and never hold grudges or give out negative karma.

I always suggest the tool for the job, and Freenode is it. Mumble is it. Git is it. If you can find a channel, on any server/network for that matter, that you like, best wishes to you. Even better, join all of them, what stops you? I don't suggest any one in particular because I don't think any one is perfect enough yet (I do single out ##FRC because that is where development of my scouting program takes place).

I have removed my quote of AddictedMAX, and I think the both of you could remove your off topic comments so we can keep this thread productive.

Also I heard that there was a teamspeak setup? Has that been completed and what is the connection info, if I get time I'll stop by.
