Web Competitors 2009
I was noticing that the thread for this year has not been started yet, so I decided to post it.
This thread is to showcase your team's entree for the Website Award. This thread is only to post your link and tell a little about the site. If you want to discuss a particular site, element, or rules for the award, post in another thread. Post your website links! |
Re: Web Competitors 2009

Work in progress, of course. We went live so we could show our supporters what we are up to during build season. |
Re: Web Competitors 2009
http://uberbots.org/2008/index.php
This is still the 2008 site, so there's a lot of work that's going to be done before it's submitted. (Like that annoying video that repeats on the home-page, and well... a lot of stuff.) |

|
Re: Web Competitors 2009
The site appears to be down, I'm assuming you're still working on it? If so, it's probably a bit misleading to post it prematurely. If not, then you may want to check your DNS settings or something.

Team 354. I've been working on it since November, and it seems that I still can't get a better background then the cheezy pirate ship from Virginia. But let me know whats good. |
Re: Web Competitors 2009
Make one up that matches the colors/theme of your team, maybe put the FIRST logo in the background.

here's the 2915 site... it's still a work in progress tho... some of the pages don't exist yet, or are malfuncitoning, but should be fixed soon... the site uses one HTML wrapper, and the rest is generated by a home made php parsing script i started a thread to get feedback, and have gotten some great help, but could allways do with more. thanks everyone -Z |

Re: Web Competitors 2009
Maaan, after seeing all these sites...I'm disapointed in ours. =(
It doesn't look fancy or have cool graphics but the back end administrative tools are friggin amazing. We've designed a admin content panel that allows anyone to edit the site just like how posts on chief delphi are written. The back end stuff is awesome but I guess I want some tips and advice about the rest of it. Advice is really appreciated. www.mortteam11.org yes i know it takes a while to redirect to our server.... |

One thing I would recommend to improve the design would be to decrease the font sizes. The body/paragraph and navigation text would be great at 12px. I could probably make you a new design if you want, and you guys could code it. |

I'm not sure how I'd feel about using someone else' design as it wouldn't feel right for me to do that without putting on the site "Designed by ...". You have an IM I could reach you at? I'd be up for seeing some cool designs to incorporate into the website, but I wouldn't like to overhaul the layout or something. Add-ons would be great. edit: nvm got your IM. |

Oregon RoboHawks
I basicly built our site by myself, only using what MySpace profile and forum posting code skill I had. I was up to my neck in work. Design and graphics are NOT my strong point. The nearest professional help for me is 50 miles away. Let me know what you guys think. I do change it when I can. |

there's still much to be changed, like the flash banner at the top, and some other stuff that needs to be added... this is pretty much last year's NJ regional winning site, but it has some updates to it, and more work will be done... however, this is probably going to be the layout |
Re: Web Competitors 2009
I remember your site! I loved it, and still do. Good job. I like how each navigational link only updates the content area, not reloading the whole page, yet there's a distinct URL for each page. To me, that's just magic. Pure magic.
Awesome layout, nice Flash header. Keep up the good work! :) |

Re: Web Competitors 2009

This our website that we have created this year. Team 2594. This was a big accomplishment for us due to the fact that we had students terminated for certain reasons and that left us with no one with any experience to work on the website. Me and a friend took on the task and it turned out pretty good we think for two people that have no idea what they were doing four weeks ago... Depending on when you look at the website, you may or may not see an intro video in the begining, we have been having problems with it coming up and ultimately don't have any idea if it will even end up on the site at all. |

Hey Everyone, ILITE Robotics (may remember us as The Robocats) Team 1885 would like to present our new site. Our site was made 100% by our Web Programming Team, and it is our goal to keep all information on it as up-to-date as possible year round. Please take a moment to go through it, as it is among cutting edge web technology. Our site is powered via Microsoft SharePoint technology which uses a combination of ASP.net, Javascript, XML, XLS, and XHTML. We feel it would be useful for everyone to familiarize themselves with the functionality and usability that it offers. Please offer any thoughts and input, we are very anxious to see how our site appeals to other teams / users. |
Re: Web Competitors 2009
risipc, is the site supposed to use the IP address with the domain just as a forwarder, or is something not setup correctly in your DNS?
|
Re: Web Competitors 2009
Website Award entries must be submitted by February 12, 2009 11:59:59 PM EST.
Websites are being submitted at the last minute, I'm watching the websites entered for evaluation at DC increase as the day goes on, with slightly less than 6 hours to go until they are due. You can't win if you don't submit! Wetzel |

"risipc, is the site supposed to use the IP address with the domain just as a forwarder, or is something not setup correctly in your DNS?"
synth3tk, Yes, our new site is just an IP address rather than domain name. Our current site is hosted on a different server than the one that we have our domain name "Battlefield Robotics" on and to retain as much consistency with the community as possible, we left our domain name the same and foward traffic to our new site. Hopefully in the future that will change, but for now it is just an IP address. |

Re: Web Competitors 2009
As stated earlier in this thread, changing your website after the deadline is a risk your team takes if judges happen to start evaluating your site.
Our team updates even after the deadline as we are still in build season and we post a summary daily of our progress. In addition, we have the regional events that we are attending posted, and we write a summary of our team's experiences after each one.:D |

Re: Web Competitors 2009
http://www.team2554.org/
Site is in our team colors, with a basic template up for each page to cut down on having to edit each individual page. (Still happens, though. I had to change about 20 pages worth of code over a period of 3 days to get it up to date in time for the deadline.) Hopefully the Team website group can help me get everything fixed for next year's competition, once this year's is over. |
Re: Web Competitors 2009
someone else tried to post this link but it wasn't "clickable" so here it is:
http://www.mvrt.com/2008/clear.php unfortunately it wasn't updated much as our school suffered a flu epidemic (around a quarter of the school was sick :( which meant that about half the team including the webmaster was in bed in the last weeks of build) |
