Lunacy iPhone App
My team is developing an iPhone/iPod touch app for keeping track of every rule to Lunacy as well as the important images included in these manuals. This app will be distributed on iTunes. We were just wondering how much people would be willing to pay to support this program? $0.99? $3?

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
I'd pay a buck for it, if the visuals are nice and well organized...
..but that means I'd have to buy an iphone :( How about a web page online that is compatible with i-phones? |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
Depends how well laid out it is. If it's clean, then I would.
But beware: you don't own those rules, so selling any form of them may be of questionable legality. Check around first to make sure you're not breaking a law... (why FIRST doesn't license their manuals under the CC is unknown...) |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
I'd prefer the app over the web page, myself...If it's got an intuitive interface and decent graphics I'd pay three bucks for it.

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
I would love an app for my Touch; I have it with me at all times in our shop. However, a web page wouldn't be accessable while there (no wireless net), so the app would be preferable. I'd be willing to pay for it.

Another thing to consider is updating the app, because if they do approve it, you would need to take great care to have the rules pushed to the clients ASAP after an update in the rules. Especially if people are paying for this app, that should be a given. |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
if i had an iphone i would buy it for about a buck probably no more.

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
I just emailed the manual (each section attached to a separate message) to myself. Now I have all the PDFs on my iPod Touch, which displays them quite well.
I created a special "Documentation" category in my Google-hosted email account for such things. In addition to the game manual, it includes a team directory and some control system reference documents. |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
depending on the preview screen I'd pay 1-3 bucks for it.

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
Now finally, I found something educationally useful for my ITouch rather than just music and videos!:D :D :D

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
Im not sure how many people want to pay for it. You might be better off releasing free (if FIRST allows it) and then having a paypal link if people want to donate. That way they can pay for what they think it is worth.

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
The gracious thing to do, would be to make it free :)

As stated by Dave, though, it won't happen here for legal reasons. |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
It would be nice to seeing an open source scouting app for the iPhone. I'm not a developer my any means, so I wouldn't know how to approach that at all.

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
Personally, i think that you should make it 25 cents to 75 cent per team # so ppl don't spend alot of time and money on it... Great fund raising idea:cool:

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
For those who do have and iPhone or iTouch I highly recommend getting the "Files Lite" app. It is the free version of "Files" when connected to a network (wifi or 3g) the app turns your iPod into a server in a sense. You add it as a network on your computer (detailed instructions included with the app) and you can drag up to 200 MB of files to be stored on you iPod(I believe the full version is unlimited). The app then allows you to view these files at anytime. (no network necessary) I currently have the complete manual, all of the Game Specific and Basic Field Drawings and I am only using 19 of 200 MB.
For anyone that has either device this app is a must have. |
Re: Lunacy iPhone App
just a suggestion.. someone should make it for the G1 also =D lol

Re: Lunacy iPhone App
I just downloaded a free app called Discover to keep the rules on my touch.
You punch in your ipod's IP in your computer's web browser and it lets you upload any doc you want to your ipod's memory. I threw all the .pdf's for the rules onto it and it works great! I also downloaded "SaveMyDocs" for about $4 which allows you to download files (pdf's for example) to your memory straight from the built in safari. So nomatter where I am, I can save the team updates for offline viewing later. |
