volunteers required?

My coach said that two people from every team are required to volunteer at the regional competion (at least in Michigan). Is this true? I don't know where he got the info so I didn't read it for myself. That seems like a lot of volunteers.

That is correct. In order to streamline the process of regional events and lower costs, teams competing in Michigan regionals each need to supply two volunteers for doing things like field reset and upkeep, and all the other small tasks that need to be done to keep a regional moving along. I also assume that includes breaking down the field afterwards.

30 or so robots only makes 60 volunteers.

If it's just stuff like breaking down the field, then I wouldn't have a problem doing it. I just don't want to miss the competition.

Since there are many volunteer jobs that are away from field view, I'd recommend recruiting parents, college-aged siblings, favorite aunts and uncles, neighbors, co-workers, etc. Just being at an event is a way to get them hooked on FIRST! Make sure they know when your teams matches are running and if they can leave their assignments for those few minutes, they will have the best of both!

If there's anything I hate it's volunteers that don't show --- so while I won't volunteer for Troy --- I will show up and work.

We've got a huge team (officially 20+) --- until the word "WORK" is mentioned. Then it's down to two or three.

Most volunteer positions will allow you to go out and watch your team's matches. I don't think any team would send a volunteer that couldn't watch their matches.

Looking like instead of setup I have to do teardown --- doctor won't let either of us out of the house until Friday morning (And the wife had to fight to shorten it to Friday morning)!!

If we have qualified for the Michigan State competition at EMU do we need to bring 2 volunteers with us there? One of the two we brought to TC and WM cannot come with us. We won WMichigan District and before that had not planned on going to State, but now may be able to (will know tomorrow morning). If so, how do we get another volunteer on such short notice?

If you want the best seat in the house, sign up for a field reset or scoring position. No matter what position you take, you can almost always get away to watch your team's matches just let someone know.
