That's neat!

I like the drivetrain concept, and how simple you made it.

How soon till you get it driving? and will you let us know ahead of time so we can be sure to watch the webcast? :)

It is amazing how similar our concept is to yours. Our additional tough boxes wont be here until later today though. We hope to get it framed up tomorrow.

is there any chance of the battery coming loose and falling to the floor?

I like the battery changing method. The quick-releases seem like they'll be effective in holding the battery in, but it won't take 15 minutes to get it back out. You'll love yourselves for this during competition. (It took us a while to come up with something that was able to fit both of these criteria.)

The past two years we've built a box for the battery to set into (from the top), and retained it with a nylon strap, with a buckle. Very easy to use.

Our first year it took a couple minutes to get the battery retaining strap unbolted...never again...

Can the toughbox gearbox be cantilevered? (not supporting the end of the shaft after the wheel)

It worked for a ton of teams last year. I saw several teams with wheels mounted directly to the output shaft, and countless others (us included) had cantilevered drive sprockets on the transmission.

I like the bike wheel locking mechanism, nice touch!

Is there an advantage to making the front wheels cantilevered from the toughbox compared to a non-cantilevered wheel mount ?
