What about the new rules

What do you guys think about the new rules?

Please reply

Shelley_delphi chick 23-10-2001 22:45

I think they........

I actually think that this year will be a better bread of robot and a better national championship event becuase of the new rules. I don't know why people are all bent out of shape because they have a few more rules they have to go by. No one yells and screams when they change the playing field, who many of this and that must be on the robot, and no one complains that they don't enjoy what they are doing.........So don't complain.....What doesn't kill us will make us stronger!!

Thats easy to say coming from an even # team. Lets see how your team feels nect year!

Jessica Boucher 24-10-2001 09:09

Woah, ok, ok, I sense some tension here.

Other than a slight fear of stagnation among teams and what they do as the years go by, I have the upmost faith that this will eventually be for the better.

I dont know if it'll be a better breed or not, that depends heavily on the teams themselves, but all we can really do is adapt to the changes and hope for the best.

PS - I dont know how long you've been around for, but yes, the community DOES complain when there are major rule changes (I was not around for most of these, but I heard they were just as bad): the introduction of the human element, the introduction of alliances, the introduction of 4-0, for example.
And what about the lengthy conversations about the kit of parts? The "spinny light" issue? And every year someone says that the field is too large, too small, etc.
But we're allowed to complain: we're putting countless amounts of dollars, time, and spirit into these things we call "robotics teams". It's the reason why we have forums, so that we can get different viewpoints and just vent a little, to show that we're not the only one affected by it. It's an adaptation of the adage "If you don't vote, don't complain".
But you know what? We all adapted...and by Kickoff, we'll all be complaining about something else. ;)

Yeah, this whole thing reminds me of last January when the 2001 game was revealed. Everyone was up in arms about the new rules, but we got over it. The new rules this year may not be the best solution, but we'll survive.

Shelley_delphi chick 24-10-2001 15:53

Thank You Jeff

Yeah, I have been around for quit a while and yes i've been there through the whole human player issue, spinny light, and playing field changes. They were things that all teams over cameand over came them with great results. If there was no change the game would be boring and there wouldn't be a challenge to it anymore. Why do you think the teams that were the first ones to start the program are still in it?? Not for their health.....Sorry, I'll be good!! Also, if the changes weren't difficult don't you think everyone and their brother would have a FIRST team....?? Just somethings to think about!!! :p

tjrage_25 24-10-2001 18:36

Yes, but last year no one was excluded.

Jeff Waegelin 24-10-2001 19:01

Yeah. So?

Shelley_delphi chick 25-10-2001 15:18

CAN WE SAY ..........

Why is everyone jumping on me for dealing with tye changes that have been given to all FIRST teams. Can I say ........ DEAL WITH IT!! Everyone else has to, suck it up and quit whinning!!!!

Hear! Hear! Shelley

It seems to me that the Good teams take the rule in stride and do the best they can. The other teams, well.....

Hopefully, with time, we'll look back on this and say that somehow (although we may not see it now) this is for the better. Hopefully. Or, if it turns out that this wasn't for the better, hopefully FIRST will realize this and change the rules again (and give us all something new to whine about:)). It seems like it's all trial and error. We all complained about the 4 vs 0 thing, and it looks like FIRST is not going to do that again. It wasn't for the best. Hopefully it'll work out.

I think that the complaints about the new rules are valid and that they will end. They sort of help people come to terms with the changes. There are some people who just like to have things to complain about. So for those who are tired of the complaints and want them to end, the only thing I can say to you is stop replying to the threads where people complain. All your posts do is keep the complaints going. If you chose to keep posting then you should stop comlplaining about the complaints.

So you're complaining about the people who are complaining about the complaints. Well I'm complaining about the people who are complaining about the people who are complaining about the complaints!

Check out the thread in the General category called "An idea..." http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...=&threadid=948

Clark started it up and I think it offers a great idea that'd make everyone happy, at least temporarily!

~Tom~, who only wants peace, love, and happiness. :)

STOP THE MADNESS..........

Would Ya'll Get Over This Already!! It Is Something All Teams Are Being Faced With And Not Just Yours. FIRST Will Look At This As A Steping Stone And Move Forward While All Of The People Crying and Moaning About It Will Think I Tried My Best This Year And Gave It All I Had With The Problem Given To Me!!

MOVE ON ......

Shelley
