Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Can we get some details on this? Looks cool how heavy is it?
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Just keep this in mind
Range /= Accuracy |
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Wait is this for you robot? This looks kinda heavy. Yes, details please. How much space does that take up?
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
It made a fairly consistent scoring once good angles were found (for a prototype). It isn't finish yet so stay posted for new pictures. :D

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
It sure does look pretty, but what's the reasoning behind the barrel?
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
My dogma ate your canon.
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Well its not finished, but as of now all it is doing is pinching the balls and aiming.
(I'm on programming...so its all magical to me, lol) |
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
wow thats a massive cannon.... does that fit the size requirements for the robot?
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Yup...:yikes:
actually the canon isn't too big, and the mounting system isn't permanent (prototype...) |

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
What motors are you using for it? I'm thinking about mounting a shooter on our robot, but i'm not sure what motors to use. We already have our fisher price motors used, so if anybody could give me an idea that would be great. thanks.

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
not on mechanical...sry, I'm not really sure
|
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
That canon is rather epic looking.... It's nice to see that someone is trying this idea. I know a lot of teams wrote it off because of the geometry of the orbit balls. Btw, do you know about how fast the balls are shot out at? I know first put a speed cap on the shooters in 2006 and I wonder if they'll do something this year.

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
ugh hannah!! i wish i could have stayed to see this magic happen!!!

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Katy - it was beautiful...lol

Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
Someone representing the mechanical team better jump in! This monstrosity is just our proof of concept -- the production version will be much more compact. We're direct-driving double stacked 2008 KOP wheels to distribute load a bit more evenly across the orbit ball upon contact. After today's tests, we'll likely have to move to something as long as ~5" to guarantee consistent firing velocity.

Of course, this was just our prototype, and the entire team learned a lot from watching it perform (and had some great ideas to improve performance, accuracy, size, and weight). All of the parts for it were already sitting around our build space, so it's definitely bigger and heavier than it needs to be! |
Re: pic: Our Canon...So Far
As to clear anything up for anyone with questions...sorry probs a little late on this one...our team prototyped all the possibilities for mechanisms for our robot that we thought would be neat to try at competitions...therefore the pictures of this cannon are just a tester and this cannon you see in the picture will not be mounted on the robot as you see in the picture..it will be modified for size and weight and all that good stuff...when we have the details on weight and all that good stuff we will make sure and post
