wow nice setup must be nice to be able to have a full size field at your disposal. we've talked about teaming up with other local teams and renting out a large warehouse during build season but we never managed to do it.

o incase some of you newer FIRSTers dont catch the sarcasm the center goal is from 2006, hense the Aim High remarks. :D

That is exactly what we were thinking. :)

We actually have never taken down the center goal from 2006. It is attached to the driver station permanently.

Thank you. The school district built us a building that hold's a full sized playing field, some old robots, and we can also store stuff that we need to in there. The school loves the program and we are thankful for that. :)

By extension of ruling <S05> from 2007, due to unforseeable paradoxes, scoring in goals from past or future FIRST competitions is strictly prohibited.

Yes, 3 times at the vegas regional where they just completed a record of 36-0 (including playoffs) and 2 times at championships.

Nice field, the center goal really adds a nice touch. I hope there is never another game that uses that space, just so you can keep it there forever. :p

Has anyone noticed that their regolith panels tend to pucker up where taped at all seams? And yes, we are using the recommended tape. If no problem, did you also tape the underside, use double sided tape on bottom or use other method?

Don Wright 12-01-2009 23:28

Re: pic: 2009 Lunacy Field

We heard that putting a 1/4" gap between the pieces of material stops it from bunching up. We have three large 50' rolls so we don't have as many seams, but ours hasn't had any bunching up problems... I believe that the regulation fields will also have this gap.

The tape that you see on top of the panels is the only thing that is holding the panels in place. We considered using double-sided tape or velcro on the underside but decided that the tape on top of the panels would suffice. When we laid the panels down, we left hardly any gap between the panels. So far there has been little or no "bumps" in the field where two panels meet.

This photo seems photoshopped for some reason.
Maybe it's the lack of shadows for things from the odd lighting conditions, but I call (probably wrongly) shenanigans!

You know, you're right. I just went back and looked at it... and the people around the trailer are just sort of there, with no shadows or anything. They look kind of out of place. I'm pretty sure they'd have no reason to photoshop the people in, though, so I don't think it actually is photoshopped.

Yeah, you know the next thing they will try to do is put some huge metal rack in the center of the field and try and hang the balls on it....

I can see your point in thinking that it is photoshoped but I can assure you that it is not, the lighting in the building is not best.

one thing I am surprised that people did not point out our previous years robots in the picture:

2008 - Corner of the playing field
2006 - Back left corner of the building
2005 - Left side of the picture right infront of the blue crate (only can see the front of it)

Sorry, but can someone tell me exactly what the regulation tape is, or where I can find out what it is? We were planning on using white duct tape, but i think the recommended tape is different.

Thanks

First thoughts of what me and my sister had just seen after reviewing the animation over and over again:

1- What will Dean, Woodie and Dave come up with next
2- Teams finally get the slippery surface they been wanting but not in the form of water

and

3- nevertheless another challenge that teams will enjoy overcoming :D

The "standard" competition tape is actually gaffers' tape. It's better than duct tape, primarily because it doesn't leave a residue. However, the GDC has stated that the tape for the Regolith is a fiberglass tape (and I'm not sure they've spec'd it more closely than that yet.)

Not in this context. Back in 2006, the center goals had a tendency to jam if, say, 217 or 25 or 254/968 or 1114 or some of the other really good shooters let fly at them, particularly if there was more than one. To make it easier to clear the jams, one particular volunteer at each end of the field had a long pole to stir them up and clear them. That pole is the "pokey-pokey stick" referred to.
