Have you burned your reciver?
 

my team(3038) and i could not find the connector for the reviver to the power distribution board. we search for at least an hour so we decided to cut the charger wire and hook it right up to the 20 slot in the power distribution board. It no longer works. does anyone know how to fix it or where to get a cheap one?

Do you mean the black Linksys Wireless Bridge? That ones supposed to be plugged into the dedicated 12V port on the bottom of the PDB. And if it turns out you did fry it, they dont seem to be cheap, Amazon has them for $90

Did you verify the polarity before attaching it? You should check it with a multimeter. It's a 12V device, so it should have been fine if the polarity was correct.

After you did this, did you find the CORRECT connector? Do you know to cut off the end near the adaptor (that came with the game adapter) and attach the the connector that is on the end of the distribution board?

What about the AC wall adapter for the bridge. We broke the tip of ours and its beyond fixing with some soldering. Anyone know where to pick one up that will work with the linksys bridge? Also the dedicated 12v connector is included with the KoP? Because we never saw it, only the larger ones for like the axis camera.

it is definitely fried. we are a new team and got to excited because we have been trouble shooting for about 16hrs, so we could not wait and stuck it in the 20 volt on and it did not work like i said. we rewired it with the wall charger and plunged it in nothing happened. So seriously there is no way to fix it we have to buy a new one for $100? Linksys will not donate another one or first will not supply one?

Bring the adapter to any local electronics store that had multiple power supplies and find one that has the right size bonnector and just cut off the end near the adapter. The 12V connector is the same as the one you would use for the camera and the breakout boards.

I can almost guarantee you that they won't. US First was the purchaser of the Bridge, so they own the warranty. You going to have to buy another one.'

And just to let you know, the side of the power cable with the white stripes in positive. I would hate to see you fry another.

If you mean you broke the barrel connector that plugs into the bridge, then you can find those at Radio Shack or other electronic parts stores.

The bridge gets wired to one of the white wago connectors that came in the kit and plugs into the Power Distribution panel to the left of the 24v cRIO power connector.

The Axis camera does not use one of the loose wago connectors that came in the KOP. Instead, it connects directly into the special 5v plug built permanently into the Power Distribution panel located to the right of the 24v cRIO power connector.

If I understand correctly, you plugged it into 20 volts? If so, it may be possible for you to take it to a repair shop, or find someone who knows electronics who can repair it. It may just be a burned up voltage regulator.

This may very well be a $90 lesson in reading the manual first. Please read section 3.2 of the FRC Control System manual so you do not destroy your replacement bridge.

However, do not be so hasty in assuming that all hope is lost. I have reverse biased the WGA600N adapter without destroying it. I have also pushed 24V into it without destroying it. However, I might have just been lucky, and I do not recommend doing either. I performed both of these tests using the regulated supplies on the PD, hooking it direct to your battery through a 20A breaker might have blown something - I really don't know, and I really don't have the extra bridges to find out.

In short, go read those sections, hook it up correctly, and see if it works.

my dad is bring it to a guy that can take a computer complty apart and put it back together sometimes better than new

There is no 20V slot. There is a 24V, a 12V, a 5V and a bunch of unregulated ones. What does the connector's silk screen say?

okay i do not know where we plugged it in but it was in a slot that said 30volts right next to it and we put in a 20volt breaker. sorry i am a programmer not an electrician.

I just want to clarify you that what you are looking at are Amps not Volts. Fuses only go by amps. The voltage will be displayed elsewhere on your Power Distribution block.

okay if you look at a power distribution bot we put it one that says 30A max and we firgured out that we put the poles backwards

In many dc devices, there is a diode placed across the power supply input, which is supposed to cause a short and blow a fuse if you reverse polarity. If you reversed polarity and had too high of a breaker, it may have just burned open the pcboard trace and possibly left the diode shorted as well. You may be able to remove or replace the diode, fix the trace, and be good as new.

i had my dad bring it to a guy that can make a computer for twigs and leaves. he said we blew a chip or something .... so that means we have to get a new one right?

Maybe not. Can you get any numbers off the component? Maybe take a picture of it? Depending on what the component is, you may be able to make a trip to radio shack, and with a little soldering iron work, fix it.

Per <R59> I think if it were repaired, it wouldn't be competition legal. In fact since it sounds like it's already been disassembled, it wouldn't be competition legal.

maybe i do not know but i was able to get the circuit board out and there are 2 chips on the front panel that look like they have yellow ink on them maybe that is the reason

Yes, it appears <R59> precludes it from being used for competition, but it would at least be able to be used for testing, and give the team time to acquire a replacement.

Rule R59. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I agree with the rule of changing the configuration of the component, but simply opening the case forces you to buy new units to use in the competition? No. I do not agree with that.

We currently have an Analog breakout module with a blown 5V 3A regulator. Nothing against AndyMark, but they want $24.00 for a replacement. The faulty IC can be bought for $4.

If a local shop were to repair this module, then the part isn't legal in competition? No modifications were made to the circuitry.

An exception should be added to this rule. A team that declares a component was repaired, and has documentation that the circuitry wasn't altered from the original design should be allowed to compete with that component.

Again, I stress that opening the cRio, or one of those plug in modules is a terrible idea and is asking for trouble. These are too complex and should only be handled by NI. The same goes with the drivers station, the game adapter, the camera, Digital sidecars,and the Linksys router.

Everything else should be loosened a little to take into account for custom circuits. I may not want to use the analog breakout, but design my own interface with a 8 to 1 multiplexer on every input pin. This should be allowed. I have no intention of doing this, but just throwing it out as an example.

Jim, you may want to pose your question to the Q&A. It may be legal to attach your custom circuit to the second 9201 modules - I do not know. It would be interesting though...

Not to sound rude, but... you did not follow the directions and hooked up your gaming adapter wrong and apparently wrecked it. Why would FIRST give you a free replacement for something that could have easily been avoided by simply following the directions they provided?

You can certainly ask on the official Q&A if you want, but I'm fairly certain they'll tell you to go buy a new one from Best Buy or somewhere else at full price. FIRST can't afford to give away spares to every team.

In my country, if we burn some electronic equipment, you cannnot go to the regionals in Los Angeles, because we live so far from USA and we wait about 3 weeks to the package arrive here...

Nope. You made a mistake, and the price for this very valuable knowledge is about $90 plus shipping.

Just like real life.

Be sure to read the manual before you fry your cRio, since that lesson is a lot more expensive...

In some cases you can get a replacement from the spare parts place at competition. In most cases you have to return it after the competition though.
