Wow, well I'm not one for thinking inside the box, so I've decided to take a different look at this hint. Since this post has more information in it then the others, I assume that Car Nack is from team 88. He'd have to be on a team that's been in the game for awhile to make these predictions. I've gotten some books on code from my library though, so hopefully I can crack this.

Hopefully I'll see you at Atlanta, just in case :D,

Comatose

He's not. If you know where to look, I think he posted on the wrong account by mistake a while ago.

Re: Who is Car Nack?

I am continually amazed at the phenomenon where someone will post a straight answer (correctly, even citing evidence) to a thread's question in the thread, but others will continue to guess/speculate (incorrectly).

Is it because no one bothers to read the threads?
As my father used to say "listen with your ears not with your mouth."

John,
My dad used to say, "God gave you two ears and only one mouth, so that you would listen twice as often as you would talk." Some would say I didn't follow his advice.

I think Paul Simon nailed the problem:

Read a whole thread before posting? Who's got the attention span for that?

I didn't take the time to read the whole thread, but it's pretty obvious to me that John is Car Nack. Fact. Write it down. Stamp it. Send it to Washington.

Bill Beatty. Hmmmm. Well, then I guess my other question is what makes him qualified to make these predictions :D .

This is a wonderful question.

Mr. Beatty is a legend. Look in the FIRSTwiki link in the portal and check out FRC 71, Team Hammond. What you will see is a listing of achievements. That's a start. Then you can do some searches here in ChiefDelphi for discussions about Mr. Beatty. Words like brilliant strategists might be a good way to search. Great contributors to the vision, the goals, the potential of this thing called FIRST. Woodie Flowers Award winners - WFAs - those would be a good start.

Another thing you can do is something I did a year ago at Kickoff. You can spend an hour that flies by way too fast, talking with an alumnus of FRC 71 and learn about the team, the community of Hammond, the struggles and achievements of the team within that community. If you do any of these things, you will have gained wisdom and a deeper understanding of those who commit their lives to insuring that young people are involved in and inspired by science, technology, and community. And maybe you will have gained some understanding of the humor and wisdom that surrounds Car Nack and his predictions.

Just about anybody can make a prediction, no special qualifications are required. Post away!

Car Nack has his own corner to make predictions in due to his incredible insight and accuracy. Four Championship medals and a Championship WFA (actually back then there was only one WFA) do not hurt either.

Jane's comments in the preceding post are spot-on.

I've posted my thoughts on FRC 71 before, so now I will keep it short:

(1) Why do I respect Car Nack's predictions? Hmmm, maybe it's the gleam of those four FRC Championship trophies on his credenza? Or, if that record isn't impressive enough,

(2) I've personally seen Team Hammond in action twice: once at the 1996 Championship (Epcot) where they seeded #1 in their very first event, and again ten years later at the 2006 St. Louis Regional (see link above). Both times, they were the most inspirational team in the field.
