2009 SAC Regional

So is anyone stoked that SAC has 45 teams in it about 8 more than last year?

Yes, hope to see you there. Also I hope to see 997 and team 675, our last years alliance again. We will be returning to UC Davis. Also 100 and 1717 are joining the Davis Comp this year.

Yeah we're pumped for Davis alright!

Last I checked 997 has not registered. They will be missed :(

On a more positive note, our neighbors the MA Bears (766) managed to make it in! Awesome!

I look forward to seeing you all there and all our old alums :D

awwww no 997?

1458 will be there, we were the 45th team on the list :D

Looking forward to seeing 100 back!

Re: 2009 SAC Regional

I'm certainly happy about the increased capacity, we originally heard it was going to be 42 teams, and our hopes sank when the list hit 42 teams and we weren't one of them, but fortunately we were able to squeeze our way in to defend our title with 2122 and 1662.

I am certainly looking forward to coming back, with 100 and 1717 coming in, this is going to be tough!

Alright! Our team is definitely looking forward (no pun intended) to this regional. I remember that a few members of 100 came by last year just to say hello. It'll be great to have you guys back competing! I'm somewhat surprised at the number of teams already registered for Davis. May the scouts prevail. I'm excited that so many teams are returning. I hope to see everyone there!

You mean by bike? Well in Davis, CA it's totally possible to bring large freight by bike, but not something I would do. Dragging a robot to the competition venue by bike, haha.
Now if you could carry it and bike to campus... something like that deserves a medal.

Well....if you have seen any video footage of the events, you will know that each alliance will need at least one bot that can indeed pin a high scoring bot. If you'd like, we can practice against your bot on Thursday and show you how frustrating it is to be pinned, just ask teams 1717, 399, and 1388. When you're in the cluster in the middle, there are those who seek the outside, but look out for those pinning bots!

"Who is the FEMBOTS? " Man....if you haven't heard of the Fembots by now, you will once you play against them! The Fembots RULE! All girl team who kick butt!:) You must respect the Fembots!!!:D

See you at Davis, let us know if you want to practice on Thursday!

Who do you think would win in a screaming match?

a) The Fembots
b) Gatorbotics
c) Space Cookies

I think it would come down to a draw between the Fembots and Space Cookies  Perhaps we can instigate some type of cheer-off this year...

Well we should all know by now that pinning is a huge factor in this game, and that good scoring bots should be on the lookout for pinning robots. That's part of the reason why we were knocked out in the quarterfinals at SVR(1868 is good at pinning too!), so this doesn't really impress me.

That said, we're really looking forward to coming up to Davis next week. We feel that we can still do a lot better even though El Toro XII already put on a solid performance at SVR.

My vote?.....I'd say the Fembots!:) If they get going, look OUT!!!

I look forward to seeing the "Luna Beast":D Perhaps...we should get out the Pepto, sneak onto the field and give ol' Luna Beast a few tablespoons!;) But...if you're on our alliance, then yeah...go ahead and vomit!!!:)

Yeah...not impressive. But as you know effective. I'm not going to toot 1671's horn as well we don't have a horn, but...we certainly will go out and run all over the field looking for robots to dance in circles with.
We just want to have some fun out there, meet you all and hang out. If your team needs anything be sure to swing by and ask, our team is certainly willing to help all and everyone if needed.

We asked Marc Leon at SVR. He said it would not be Blair... :(

He mumbled something about somebody new, being trained.

There's always Ken! He's a pretty good announcer!

I wanted Theiss to do it, but I'm not sure he has the time.

I have to say, while scouting I stood for a while right in front of some members of Gatorbotics. My ears have still not entirely recovered... I know and love both the Fembots and the Space Cookies though. I look forward to getting to know Gatorbotics better at Davis, and everyone else! So many teams to scout, so little time, so little sleep... so many awesome teams and robots!

There is an outside company that specializes in internet broadcasting, and they plan on donating some time and resources to streaming Davis out for the world to see. There should be a link available closer to the time of competition.

As for the MC, I saw Ken on campus a few days ago, and apparently he was doing some training at SVR and will be lead MC-ing at SAC. I'm sure he'll do a great job!

Martin, I doubt Theiss could do it, he works 3 jobs :ahh:

Thanks! Our name change is mostly due to the fact that no one on the team really liked Engen anymore. Plus, Citrus Circuits gives us a "theme" of sorts to work off of. Don't be surprised if you see a dancing lemon on the field this year...

Re: 2009 SAC Regional

How did you guys like Davis this year? It did change a bit from previous years. More people accepted this year (also more turned away). And a new big player (1717) to diversify the ecosystem. Less rookies then past years IIRC at 4 this year.

Personally I still loved Davis, but it is starting to move towards being like SVR as far as competition intensity vs chill-out factor which I would really hate to see happen. But not as much as I would have guessed seeing what I wrote above.

The one thing I noticed at Davis this year was how many people came up to our pit that I approached and started talking to who came just because they heard about it on the news or radio or around campus. This is something that I'm extremely happy about, seeing this growth of people interested in FIRST.

HUGE CONGRATS TO 1717!!!!!!!!

Amir! I can't wait to see you in Atlanta. I'm glad we both made it. It's so exciting. After not being able to make it in LA, and knowing we both deserved it, it's awesome to see us both make it. I can't waittt to see you guys. Hopefully in the same division?! =)

Re: 2009 SAC Regional

Well I want to give congrats to all of the teams at the SAC Regional. I also wanted to give congrats to team 1717 for taking the win, and for evading my team, 3013, in the quarter-finals. We distracted you in the first match but made the mistake of going after team 668 instead of you. But we give you congrats. I was hoping you would win because you knocked us out. But really to all teams that enter this regional you made us feel at home. This is our first year and will not be our last. It just sucks that I'm a senior. Well hope every is happy how things went and see you next year or at the Cal-Games, I will be back as a mentor.

The Sacramento Regional was pretty amazing. :]

I hate to say this, we won't be seeing any of you at Atlanta this year.
We're definitely attending the CalGames, though.

On a different note, Have any of you guys gotten videos of any of the matches uploaded? :)

Re: 2009 SAC Regional

One of my favorite moments at this year;s competition was when I was sitting next to an older woman (grandma, or teacher) from 2122 (replacement team for 692) during the finals. When the second game's finals were displayed on the screen showing that they had lost she started cheering and clapping and hollering. This confused me, so I tapped her on the shoulder her and tried to explain that her team was on the blue alliance, which lost. She repsonded "I know, but it sure was a great run!" Maybe I do have a lot to learn after all.......

Re: 2009 SAC Regional

Another great Sacramento Regional! Some congrats and thank yous are in order:

Congrats to 1323 on winning Chairman's. We made a run at it, but you guys earned it!

Congrats to 1717, 668, and 2473 on winning the regional. You guys were definitely the best alliance in the eliminations, and I was just satisfied with nearly winning a match against you guys. And this was the first ever regional win for 668 and 2473, big congrats to them!

Thank you to our alliance, it was a great run.
-2144: I was initially disappointed when you invited us to join you, but looking back, you guys were great. Thanks for sending empty cells to our payload specialist, those super cells really pushed us through the quarterfinals.
-692: Thanks for being a great alliance partner. It was so unfortunate that you guys encountered those problems that forced the substitution.
-2122: Thanks for being an awesome backup robot. My heart sank when I heard that there would be a substitution, but you guys turned out to be a great replacement for 692. You picked us up last year and we won together, too bad we couldn't pull it off again this year.

Thank you to the Sacramento Regional Planning Committee for putting on this great regional year after year!

Thank you so much! I was the team 2085 guy who did the moon walk challenge! :D The 2009 Sac regional was one of the best weekends of my life, I had so much fun dancing with you guys and everything! Hope to see you all as mentors and students next year!

I would like to congratulate all the competitors! Everyone did a fantastic job and showed great gracious professionalism conduct... You all made my senior year and last shot a great one. The FIRST program has changed me by giving me this opportunity to have this experience. The most fantastic part of the competition was seeing all the different designs. Team 2085 is in its 3rd year, and we are bringing home the Xerox Creativity Award for our disc brake system... This is our FIRST award to bring back, and as team captain I feel very grateful that we went further in this competition than any other before, plus setting the record of 119 points was very awesome too with team 115 and the spacecookies!!! That super cell throw was AMAZING!!!!

I don't want to go into too much detail because I would end up writing a page in thank yous to the teams that made it happen. I hope to see you seniors in many other challenges we will hopefully be able to face together in the future. As Dean Kamman says... Our generation faces the biggest challenge almost ever seen in this country. And after seeing how well we worked together while we were competing against each other, I'm looking forward to it. GO ENGINEERING!!!!
:P

I think I speak for all of 1717 when I say that we had an awesome time at this regional. I thought it was relaxed and cheerful, and I had a great time talking to new teams. The 9-hour bus ride was absolutely worth it.

Thank you to the countless people who complimented our robot. I hardly ever found our pit without somebody asking smart questions. EricH posted a link to some picture of our robot if you are curious.

A special thank you to the teams on our final alliance. 668, we could not have won without your fearsome dumps and nimble collection. 2473, your outstanding human player and defense kept other robots at bay.

115, 2144, and 2122 you guys made us very nervous on that second match. Well done on winning engineering inspiration 115. Props to Madtown's chairman's award win.

And a shoutout to 399, for being the other undefeated team this weekend! Bravo! See you in Atlanta.

Did anyone catch Tim Goodmans email? For the Abbot Diabetes Care internship?

I'd like to apply for the internship, but I kind of missed his email. Let me know.

Hi everybody, I'm the guy the proposed out on the field. I've been trying to find footage of the proposal on the web and haven't found any yet. I do have video of it, but would like to know if anyone else has video of it or has seen video of it somewhere and if so where can I find it.

article about 2085, 3013, and 701 representing Solano at Davis.

I also believe our mentor saved all the video directly from the equipment, so maybe we could get you that sometime as well. (if not also get it onto thebluealliance.net)

We're converting the footage from mp4 to wmv, then we'll seperate it into each match and have it up as soon possible. It takes a long time to convert all the footage. I'll post back once it's completed.

Thanks a lot on converting the videos and yes they take forever to convert. Take to TBA to see if you can upload it there.

Thanks a ton,

RC
