Quaker granola bars and Rice Krispies Treats.

Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
In N Out Burger!!
Students take turns bringing in homemade food for the team on the weekends, helps us keep the build healthy. -Keaton |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We eat pretty much anything...the parents take turns providing an entire meal for us, so we are well fed! The most popular is probably taco in a bag.:D

By far, my favorites are all of the variations of penne pasta! I can build for many hours without getting hungry after a plate of that. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Heheheh....mine's the baconator from wendys. I literally get it every day, and no, I'm not fat!
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Pizza (with chain grease and metal shavings, of course).
There's a pizza place directly across the street from our high school, so it's a build season classic for us. Last year the adults got bored of it, so we also did subs, wraps, and Italian food occasionally. |

Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
So many to choose from... if there's one thing the students and parents make sure of, it's to keep the mentors well fed during build season :)
My favorite last year was probably the taco bags we had for lunch one day. Imagine an individual sized bag of Doritos Nacho Cheese, throw in seasoned ground beef, salsa, lettuce, and whatever else you want. Shake it up and eat with a fork. yum! So far this year... the cookies some of the students have brought in. definitely the cookies. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
one of our mentors found a grill that was being discarded, so now we have a grill, mmmmmm...burgers
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Orange Jawbreakers. Nothing else will do.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Lithium grease.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
What about Mtn. Dew!!!! Mmmmmm... Mountain dew...
:D |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Coke>Mountain Dew
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Pita chips + animal crackers= subsistence for 6 weeks.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
umm....pizza from New World's PIzza, a pizza place directly across from our high school, makes really hot nice, greasy/oily pizza, then we add our own ingredients, like said about chain grease and metal shavings....we're thinking of making it interesting this year but haven't made progress on that
Drink usually water, pepsi, diet pepsi, mountain dew, unsold drinks from Monty Madness and Kickoff....I'm glad we bought extra EDIT: WOOT POST 100! 3 more till 103 yay cybersonics :D |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
:yikes: I haven't had animal crackers in years....there so goooooooodddddd
EDIT: HAHAHA same time post as the person above me. |

We got a deal with a local pizza place for heavily discounted pizza every night of the season. :)
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
One day some one bought chinese food and it was amazing! the next day for snack we ate cold egg rolls. it rocked!:yikes:
But everynight the parents of the 103 kids bring in dinner, usually home made and always very tasty! My mom made baked ziti. some one's mom made burgers and hot dogs and mac and cheese. It's pretty healthy and it gives us variety! |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Pizza, with good toppings
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process

Anyways...animal crackers are delicious, if only we could reprogram the vending machine........(don't want to break it, all the janitors will know it was the robotics team, only club that stays on Saturday) |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We live off of Mountain Dew and Pizza Hut :)
Though we are getting homemade tacos this Saturday! Om nom nom! |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Nom_Om :P
We get brownies every weekend :D I wish... |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Nerds. For sure. (I prefer to call them geeks.) One of our team members brought in two 2x2x2 boxes of nerds that his dad recieved by accident. We have proceeded to demolish most of the first box. the second is for competition.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Let's see... Dominos pizza, soda, assorted homemade food, and girl scout cookies (if someone leaves them in the shop accidentally after buying them):yikes:
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Who eats during build season? Im busy working :D
The best food by far is anything mexican. Carne Asada Burrito's are what keep me awake. |

Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We're living on Jack-In-The-Box, Subway, and LOTS of RAMEN (Picante Chicken, Creamy Chicken, and Roasted Chicken), oh and Vienna Sausages and Jolly Ranchers!!!
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We've worked out a schedule where each parent provides either lunch or dinner one time during the build season and they can bring anything they deem fit so long as it is enough to feed about 40 people. So we are fortunate to get a good variety of food which is nice since we eat dinner at school 3 days a week...
The best is when we get homemade chinese food. Very good stuff. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process

|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
I'd hafta say Mt. Dew wins... liquid fuel basically!
Although 3+ month old frozen cookies are always a delicacy! when the cookie's harder than your teeth, you know you've struck gold! Best part is, no one else eats them, so theres always a good supply! (And also no, I'm not fat either!) |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
The food team 2021 eats generally consists of lots of Mountain Dew, various large bags of chips and buffalo wings from different places.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
coffee.... lots of coffee
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
I wish we had an In N Out burger or Chipotle around us =/
but we always go to Odyssey Pizza (local restaurant) every friday during build season as a team tradition :] |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Big places around us are Subway, KFC, Wendy's, McDonalds and Taco Bell. I could tell stories about the last one.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Pizza and Dew :ahh:
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We usually pick up some burgers from Sonic on the way to the shop. yummm
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Sounds like a lot of teams do the same as us... our parents provide a meal or two during the build season, so we get dinners 5 nights a week, and lunches on weekends.
My favorite so far from the parents is probably the full cold turkey dinner that we had last year, or the Dinosaur BBQ that one of our new parents brought this year! But we have had so many amazing meals its hard to keep track! Last night I had easy mac at about 11:30 when I got hungry again and was working on our Team's engineering notebooks/wiki at the school. And every year our team celebrates Ice Cream for Breakfast Day on the first saturday in february. We have also started making it backwards day as of the last two years, and my husband and I bring "Breakfast for Dinner" and we cook waffles, pancakes, eggs and bacon right in the back room of our computer lab!! Its tons of fun and we've even had a few teams "crash" our dinner! :) |

Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Vending machine drinks started to get very expensive in our school, then Coke decided they were making everyone fat and couldn't sell anything with sugar or caffeine in schools. We used to rely on the vending machines for drinks during build season, but since there is no sugar or caffeine in them, we had a problem. Fortunately, we found a solution!
We got a large mini-fridge from the older brother of one of our team members. We (by "we" I mean "I") had to wash it with bleach 3 times because there was some sort of science experiment growing in it, but we decided that almost makes it better than buying a new mini-fridge. We keep it stocked up with generic pop (or soda, for you non-Minnesotans) from our local Cub Foods (go SuperChill!). We even have a punch card system for it. We worked out all of the details so that we get pop for 1/3 the cost of the vending machine drinks AND the team gets profit! :yikes: Now we should do the same thing with snacks... Hmm... |

It's working really well. I think we have about 10 students and a couple mentors involved. It doesn't generate a ton of profit, but any money we can get is good, plus we all save money with the punch cards! |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
The Robettes like to bake for each other for sure...cookies and brownies and last saturday we had huge birthday cupcakes for one of our mentors...!
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
When i was a student on 145 we had like 4 or 5 dozen(i think that's right, but anyways it was a lot) doughnuts every Saturday. The mentors sometimes wouldn't let us leave till they where gone......... cause they didn't wanna have to eat them =P
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Mountain Dew and cup noodles.
FIRST: Showing high school students the college experience. Woo. Also, I second the In-n-Out, but we also get food from L&L's Hawaiian BBQ and Chipotle a lot too. |

Our high school is 10 minutes from the center of Chicago and is conveniently located across the street from a burger king, subway and white castle. As well as a Greek/Italian/Mexican restaurant. We brought a whole refrigerator up and students alternate bringing snacks and meals. Our team is really diverse with indian black white latin and asian foods represented. Needless to say, we stay well fed lol. My personal favorite is a one a 1 dollar limitless buy-in on pepsi for the design team. Btw Pop>Soda

Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Process at the beginning of the meeting.
1. Log into Pizzahut.com 2. Hit reorder the normal (1 Sausage 1 pepperoni, 1 cheese, 1 ham, 1 bacon, 1 pineapple) 3. Enter in 2R for coupon code twice (Once for first 3 and again for second 3) for the 5-5-5 pizza mia special 4. Checkout 5. THEN update the SVN Repository and start to work P.S. It was a sad day yesterday afternoon when the custodian took away the pizza box tower  |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Last Saturday (not yesterday) I went straight to robotics without eating, so I had pizza for "breakfast." Then I went to work where the only nearby food is a pizzeria, so on my dinner break I had pizza for "lunch." Then when I went home past ten, my brother's friends had leftover pizza so I had that for "dinner."
And yet I still want more. My team gets the BEST pizzas I've ever eaten. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We may not have the In N Out burger here in NY, but I'm sure everyone in Rochester prefers a good old garbage plate. At its founders home Nick Tahoe's
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Coffee, Seriously I drink a lot of coffee during the build season somewhere around 48oz-72oz a day.
As for Food we'll usually get pizzas if a bunch of people are eating. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Cup Noodles, cold pizza, and Powerade.
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Some good old dunkin donuts + cheezits +pizza
currently we have no drinks due to an incident with the costco sized palate of coke. on day when we were putting stuff away, we brushed by it and the whole pack of diet coke for the mentors(we have real coke for the students) exploded everywhere |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We eat pretty much anything found in our shops vending machines during weeknights.
Then its little Caesars hot and ready pizza on Saturdays! :D To mix it up a little, we get Arbbys Roast beef sandwiches too. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
uhhhhhhh water??? yeah thats about it :ahh:
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Chinese food/pizza and A LOT of mountain dew. Hmmm, oh! - also, licorice. So you can code and get your sugar at the same time . <3
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Mountain Dew, Tea, Coffee, Pizza, and pasta.
Like alot of other teams we have parents alternate providing meals. We've had a couple of all nighters that involved a trip to the nearest convience store for "Supplies". One trip returned with 2 small jars of peanut butter, each one costing $3 O.O, and another returning with funions and mountain dew. |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process

We have a popcorn machine for our fll tournament, so popcorn on weekends...
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Poutine is always good :)
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
During build season we have the parents bring in lunch on weekends, and it usually consists of subs/pizza/soda, standard fare for any robotics team.
But during the competition, we go crazy. Monster, chinese food, pancakes, more monster, huge boxes of donuts; we have all these traditions that have evolved over the years. And while in our pit, you don't eat, you inhale your food, cus who knows when the judges will come or something needs fixing/coding? |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process

Again, we don't start until 6 on weekdays, and end at 4 on Sunday, so the only time we need to have team dinners is Saturdays. Thanks to some very nice mommys and daddys, Saturday dinners are all homemade, and we can't thank them enough. And then there's those of us who come right to the shop from work or are running late, and bring our dinner with us... |
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
Haha we usually have potlucks here too ^.^ the parents provide lots of good food usually including Spam Musubis and Noodles and pizza and pineapples....well not pineapples but they are good >.<
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
I hate to say it (since it isn't Aussie) but Pizza Hut!!! We all also like any type of "lolly" and Tim-Tams. Tim-Tams are an extremely Aussie cookie that are AMAZINGLY GOOD!!!
|
Re: Favorite Foods during Build Process
We haven't really had much in the ways of meals (meetings from 4:30 to 7:30, they go home for dinner) but this past saturday one of our students volunteered to bring pizza, even though I couldn't attend, I have a feeling much little ceasers was to be had (followed by food comas). Parents usually bring in snack stuff snack packs of chips (huge boxes of these), granola bars are a must (good boost if needed), as well as fruit, and we always have soda or water on hand to drink.
The more I think about it, the more I think we need to have a "dinner party" type thing... the team really hasn't had "time to themselves". A potluck for 20 can't be too hard to plan, can it?! |
