Solidworks help- SLDMAT

I downloaded a .sldmat file that contains more materials for the material database in Solidworks. How do I add the database file to the list of materials in Solidworks?

Wherever you have SW loaded on you computer, there should be a data folder. There is a material folder inside the data folder. It is pretty buried in that folder structure.

Quick question, where did you get the file?

With certain limited editions this may not be possible. I think it is ok with the student version but I'm not sure. If you are still having issues then you should check to see if the library was downloaded correctly.

There is another way to add your material library. Go to Tools --> options and select "file locations" under the system option tab. Go to "material databases" and select the location that your database is in. At FANUC we do this for our custom material library.

On a side note, you can do this for any template or database in SolidWorks. For example, the ThunderChickens have a custom drawing template we use and that set of templates is located on the ThunderChicken server so we can use them from multiple machines as opposed to loading them on each PC individually.

Great success! I got the file from http://www.fcsuper.com/swblog/?attachment_id=93. The zipped folder contained instructions for where to copy the .sldmat file. ( C:\Program files\SolidWorks\lang\english\sldmaterials) this added many new materials to my database. Thanks for your help all!
