Re: 2009 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)
Saturday afternoon, I was sitting at the top of the bleachers behind 234 with Jenny Fultz and Cynette Cavaliere, enjoying the crowd and the competition. An elderly couple climbed to the top of the bleachers and sat down a few feet from me, taking in all of the noise, color, excitement, energy, and fun. After a little while, the woman asked me to explain the game and I enlisted Cynette's help since my explanations tend to go long. This was the second family we had visited with, sharing information and an understanding of the game. Just a few minutes earlier a dad had been sitting where they were with his two young sons who were screaming and yelling and all about the robots.
The elderly couple sat there for a good while enjoying the matches and then they told me that they have always seen the signs every year and wanted to stop by and learn about it this year. When they got up to leave, they said they were very proud of the teams that brought this opportunity to the neighborhood and the high school, that it was just incredible. I believed them. |
