Here in South Carolina, we barely know what snow is, but we did have one day where school was canceled for an ice/snow mixture less than an inch deep that didn't affect the roads, so we lost that day.

It's going to happen again next week too. Take a look at some computer models for what is going to come out of the gulf next Sunday. Some teams on the east coast could really loose some time.

So ... where's all this Global Warming we've been promised?

As I tell my students, how can you seriously believe the prognosticators when they say it will be 2 degrees warmer in a hundred years, when they can't even tell what next week (or sometimes tomorrow!) will be like?

We lost 3 days so far – 1 day due to a water main break and 2 days due to snow!

I saw a couple posts about how a lot of teams tough it out and still drive to the work site, but I just wanted to point out that sometimes canceling a build session would just be a lot smarter. Students don't think about their own safety and will want to come in regardless of snow, sleet or rain. But let's face it, they are not the USPS and should not have to risk their safety in driving or being driven to build sites. Same goes for mentors.

Sure you might lose a day or two of work, but imo having an unfinished robot is a crap load better than an injured or dead member because of road conditions.

Don't "rough it out" on the roads, sometimes you just need to do the smart thing and stay home.

Someone was obviously late to kickoff this year. Right before the FRC kickoff, NASA TV & the webcast were showing the satellite images of the polar ice caps for every year they had available.

In 2007, they all but disappeared in the summer.

Coloradans don't believe in canceling anything due to weather. Nor do we believe in plowing roads to a drivable state. :)

Don't look at it as a lost day in the shop. Instead look at it as an opportunity to hone your skills driving on the Regolith.

Well we didn't have any snow days in the middle of build this year, although it was close(knock on wood). However we did have finals in the middle of build which lost us a week.

our team is allowed to meet on snow days(thank god), the only issue is that were we meet is a machine shop, out in country, 5 miles from town, in the snow, up hill both ways (really, it's hilly on that road). So if school is canceled we will meet there, the only issue that comes to light then is, "i thought school is canceled so robotics is to right?", "No, i told you the last 3 days, if a snow day happened, we will meet all day instead of 2 hours that night, bring a lunch" Or the ever classic block, "the roads looked to bad," "well some of our mentors are here, some who had to drive 2 hours in that crap, to get here to mentor our sorry butts."

And they still don't show up...

Honestly, we Michiganders have not been getting the snowdays, the administrators have been, toughing it out, subzero temperatures and a predicted foot of snow, but school is still on. The road commission spent there entire plowing budget before the end of the year, and we cant even get a snowday.
