Chain rules
is there any rule regarding the size of the chain you can use? or can you only use number 25 or 35?
Thanks, Team 1778 |
Re: Chain rules
No, you can use any size but why would you want to use a bigger size. Also the weight is the main factor in picking which chain size you want.

Re: Chain rules
A few teams even use bicycle chain because it is lighter but the disadvantage is that it is harder to work with.

Re: Chain rules
Well, it all depends on what you are using the chain for. Larger chain will most likely be used in your drive base, assuming you are running chain there and smaller chain would most likely be used on an elevator of some sort or a roller system. A word to the wise though, chain is annoying....

Re: Chain rules
A couple of additions to those above. Most teams use 25 or 35 chain so finding links, clips and spares at a competition is easier if you stick to these "standard" parts. If you use chain, please make a design that allows you to compensate for wear/stretch as this will occur. More than a few teams learned this the hardway when their chain fell off in a finals match. And please never attempt to rethread a chain under motor power. Keep it safe out there.!
