It's the plywood backing that was used to cut the 3/8 thick aluminum turret plate (a sprocket) on the GKN water jet.

Re: pic: 294 teaser
It looks more like a timing belt pulley (a really really big one!) than a chain sprocket, so 3/8" makes sense.

Re: pic: 294 teaser
You have us beat. We cut out a 180 tooth 25 series sprocket for our turret. Ours was done with a laser though.

Indeed. I hope we get to see you guys in Atlanta.

Re: pic: 294 teaser
You have us beat too. We used a sawzall to cut the center hub and spokes out of a swamp cooler pulley

.... or are you leaving them square and hoping for the best by keeping the chain tension "extra tight" since I assume this will lie in a horizontal plane.... |

GKN's largest lathe can handle 20" diameter parts, which is where we will be doing our work. If it really came down to it we could stick it up on our VTL we use for our 6ft diameter engine nozzles. :-) |

Re: pic: 294 teaser
Very nice. We cut a 183 tooth timing pulley for our turret on a laser cutter out of quarter and eighth acrylic. Works very well.
