2594 Robot Preview
![]() ![]() ![]() This years robot, week 4, not yet finished. Still have motors and annodizing to do. We need to mount our electronics as well, in the back. Drivetrain and front brushes working, moves well. Tell us what you think. |

Very nice! What kind of motors will be driving those blue brushes? I'd like to hear more about the delivery system. Its a well professional looking robot, and I like the drive train as well.

The blue brushes will be driven by the DENSO (window motors). As for the delivery system we don't have any finalized choice, but we have a few working ideas.

Does each pair of brushes spin independently? Or some as pairs? Or all together? Looks great!!!

The top three brushes and the bottom three brushes work as groups each run by its own DENSO. The top three will be trigger operated.

Yah, the brush system was one of the easier parts to design/build. The drivetrain was a monster... Just so you know, Van Tassel didn't mention it is 4-wheel drive, AND 4-wheel steering... Here is a pic that is a little closer in so that you can see, as you can tell it isn't fully assembled at this point, it was a few weeks ago. We are using that mount right there to pivot the two tierods that attach to the custom wheel brackets.

Although it looks very difficult with the drivetrain we actually have bumper brackets planned that should work, but not physically there yet...

I actually have multiple videos that i have taken off of cameras and cell phones. They are just of the robot driving though. The thing is that I don't know how to get them onto the site, or youtube. I need some help with that, if someone can help me convert formats or something like that I can get them up. Especially if you know how to get videos off of phones...

The driving works amazing and the brush system is currently being tuned. Even with the slick wheels we have almost perfect control with sliding, and we were even playing around sliding it with out feet and purposely doing drift and we EASILY got out of them when we wanted to. I really am wanting to get a vid up now...

Yah, in my original design (I did the chasis/drivetrain) I couldn't do bumpers, so what i did was manipulate it so that we had some spots to mount. The exact spots and brackets i'm not so sure about but i am told that it should be fine by a couple team members on the mechanical team. I am trusting them that it does work or else we got a problem i guess huh? I am trusting that they are doing something that can take hits from other 120 pound robots, they are smarter than that, I hope... :D

Ok. Good call. Like I said, I'm not personally working on the bumpers, but I will make sure that the people that are know this rule. I did design the chassis and drivetrain so that there was extra room, so it should be ok, but no harm in making sure. Thx again. |

I hope the brushed designs work out well this year (for both our sakes)!
How much distance can you get out of the denso motors for shooting? It seems to me like it would have been preferable to swap your intake and shooter motors so the FP's would be firing balls. |

I really advise you guys to take a look at all the Bumper threads and read them in detail. The rules are still confusing for a lot of teams. Looking at your frame you are going to need some serious thinking about how you are going to comply with the bumper rules. Good Luck!

The Naskcorpion is showing some serious progress with 8 days left.
Everyone has had to really pulled together at the 11th hour (literally) to shift the steering inward by 5/8", inorder to accomodate the bumper bracket. ![]() Everyone is focussed on getting this done asap, as there are only 8 days left before it has to ship! ![]() ![]() ![]() Good times! What your probably wondering is if the white hubcaps with the NASKCO logo are legal.......we haven't seen anything in the rules about hubcaps being illegal. I love looking at the images of robots that teams post as weeks go by. I'll admit, I usually use them to gauge 1339's progress as compared to other teams, and to look for potential issues. This thread, however, has absolutely floored me. Your robot looks amazing, and completely aside from any issues related to competition, rules compliance, or scheduling, I am in awe. What a fantastically realized design! More power to you and your outstanding team.

Excellent work guys! Just make sure that you have a good bumper system by the end, otherwise you're pretty much dead! Also, how do you know if you have a good center of balance for that thing??

Ok, with the issue of the wheels, as eric pointed out we are using the KOP wheels and not affecting them in any way, and the hubcap locks in inside of the wheel so nothing touches the ground. Our hubcaps are printed out on a 3D prototype machine so they are legal in every way shape or form, that is unless the judges think it is so cool that they throw us for unfair advantage. :). Also, the main tube design is made out of a very light aluminum so that there is vry little weight. We are designing all of the electiracal parts to go on the bottom, so our center of gravity is theoretically very low. Unless for some reason we add a lead weight to the top that should be fine too. Thanks to all of the comments from all of the teams and mentors that we are getting, your guys' comments just keep motivating us to finish and do well. We are very excited to go to competition now and see all of the others.
One more question that I ahve been getting is about videos. I am currently trying to get some vids up there, but due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to that I am struggling a little bit. A note to everyone that would like to see a video. On monday I am giong to the district's tech teacher and he said he will help me get the vids up. SO... by noonish Mountain time hopefully I will have videos up for you guys. Thanks alot for the great comments and feedback. Good Luck To all from NASKCO!!! :D |
2594 Up and Running
We got our robot operational on Saturday night, or should I say Sunday morning? Well, it works, about as well as we were hoping it would too. Now it's time to tweek the programming and get some practice in. Good luck to everyone. :D

Ok, it is monday at about 3 in teh afternoon. We are testing the programming tonight and so hopefully I will get videos and pics uploaded by tonight at 9 so that you can see the balls shooting, and I can too. :) This of course is a goal and definetly not a guarantee. I promise nothing.:p

![]() Our beautiful wiring mess... Not that bad actually... ![]() Sorry, it's sideways... ![]() To all that where curious how we are doing our bumpers, and yes, as far as we can tell it is legal. (basically a fender on a car. ![]() There have been many teams wondering about brushes, so here is our design, and it is tested and works well. ![]() And how the balls are picked up, the opening is about 7.5-8 inches wide. I meant for the pics to be blurry, so you guys can't see all of our secrets. JK, SORRY FOR SOME OF THE BLUR, NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER...Will have video a.s.a.p. We are still using the old design, just curious about the new one. New design is the NASKCO just for the schools. NA for NAmpa High School (the red bulldog). SK for SKyview high school (the blue hawk). CO for Columbia High School (the yellow wildcat). [EDIT] HEY!!! A little update to everyone that has been following our progress:
We took the rear drive motors off and put them on the brushes so that we can get more torque out of the final ball launching area, this now makes our robot 2 wheel drive but still four wheel steering. We are currently building an extension piece to go on the tip of the tube so that we can get more reach on the shooting. We are setting up our programming so that we can go anywhere from sitting right on top of the trailer and barely drop the balls in to shooting around 10 feet. I am not sure what you mean. But, our final robot was our prototype. After seeing everyone build their prototypes out of wood, we think we should do that next year. Then we can get some immediate results, instead of waiting for the final package to be finalized.
