I for one am suitably impressed. This looks like the sort of simple and effective design I've come to associate with the Thunderchickens, and I'm willing to bet they will do quite well. Good luck, and hopefully we'll get the chance to work together again this year.

Paul, you may have fooled some of them, but I have proof this is fake. To quote you from another thread:

That would imply that this picture, being of the robot, is assembled, wired, and all but finished. BUT, the ship date is more than 24 hours away, THEREFORE 217 cannot possibly be finished, THEREFORE this must be a hoax.

BOOM! How's that for impenetrable logic?

this is my favorite teaser thus far

Wow. If this 217's real robot I am a bit disappointed... But at the same time I'm excited to see how they put the design into use on the field.

If it's not the real robot then this is by far the funnest teaser thread that I can remember.

For example: "Those teams 816 and 1323 needs to stop posting pictures of their robots, nobody cares about them. I wanted to know how the frames were put together and they said 'magic' so I don't like them anymore."

*Reminder, I'm a friend of both teams*

Lol, way to randomly talk about us in a Thunder Chickens thread...

Why? It's not the most complex robot in the world, but it probably works really well. 217 had a traction control system running just 4 days after kickoff, so they probably have that perfected and a lot of drive time. The CIM-powered pickup is probably really fast and efficient. I don't know how accurate the dump is, but it's unlikely to jam. I predict they'll be driving (often literal) circles around their opponents collecting tons of balls really fast, and then use their tcs to quickly pin someone for a dump and go back to collecting.

I wasn't making any attacks at the bot. I was just saying that we've come to expect great things from the Thunder Chickens. I guess I expected that they would've come up with some other genius way of manipulating game pieces (2008's grabber, 2007's 8(?) linkage arm, or 06's turrenting shooter of awesome). I'm actually a bit more excited about this bot than most because it's so simple and because I know 217 would never put a bot on the field that wasn't capable of laying a smack down on their opponents... I just want to see how they do it...

Guys, let's hope that's their real robot, ok? 20 balls in 2.5 seconds is crazy enough without all the fantastic extras they may have!

Very nice bot. I am looking forward to seeing it in competition.

About that... 20 balls in 2.5 seconds is nice and all... but I still can't see where this robot is going to hold 20 balls ... more magic?

Any excuse to post this link is a good one:

Looks like 217 still has their switch on "magic".

You nailed it right there, probably without realizing it. Ive said countless times, the reason the teams win is NOT because they have the best robot, it is how you use it. I can tell you that for as "awesome" as 217's robot was last year we were able to beat them at Kettering. How? Simple, their drivers werent at their peak, ours were. (Btw, this is NOT a jab at 217, merely using them as an example)

Imagine if a team has all the equipment in the world but no one trained to use it. You know, those CNC machines sure do look spiffy, they are pretty intimidating, but I would be willing to bet you good money that a single skilled machinist and a good engineer can put together a better robot than that team. Personally I would prefer to see 217 put out a functionally awesome robot over a aesthetically awesome robot.

That being said, I too call hoax, Paul said it would be shown when it was done, well we all know that these robots are NEVER done.

This is Team 3069's robot, built with help from the Thunderchickens at the Ford Van Dyke Plant.
