recycling

Hey there,

Me and my team did a recycling program last year and we though it was a great idea and it turned out really well. We went around and gave boxes to other teams for them to put their trash in. Then at the end we went around and picked up the boxes, sorted though them, and recycled them.

We think it is a great idea and that it would be great if other teams started to do it as well. Plus it can get you in some recognition with other teams.

Let's face it, we as an organization produce a lot of trash. If we are truly trying to make a better world to live in then I think we should start picking up after ourselves.

Power on!!

That is a great idea! Congrats to your team for going the extra mile and props for sorting through everyone's trash. I doubt students were lining up for that job! xD Thanks for the good example and good suggestion.

Hey!

Update: we have a guideline for setting up your own recycling program at your regional and/or the championship.

hmmmmm.....now if teams did that at the GTR next week I'd have a news story, March 28 is the day of earth hour as well so yea if any teams at the GTR are doing something environmentally friendly make it obvious and I might find you and get you on the weather network, I usually spend about three hours wandering aimlessly through the pits looking for things that will make interesting video/interviews etc.

I remember one team last year had a big earth hour, save/hug the planet sign. I forget which team it was.

Last year I was on team 1930, we had to merge with 2228 because our head teacher was laid off, but back at 1930's school, rush-henrietta, we had equipment for casting so any team with casting equipment should make sure they put all unusable scrap metal is put in the furnace to be melted down

Team 66 will be taking any kind of batteries, robot batteries or household, and we will recycle them properly. Just drop them off at the pit.
Good Luck to all.

No at the Michigan State Championship and, if we make it, Nationals.

I was thinking about doing a recycling program at our next event, so thanks for the guidelines!

Also, could anybody make a FIRST Recycling logo with the three arrows in a triangle instead of the regular triangle in the FIRST logo?

Wouldn't it be more fitting to do it with a circle? It might make the logo more balanced.

Good point, but for now I'll take the side that more people are familiar with the arrows shaped like a triangle. I'm open to whatever. Maybe someone can make one of each, then we hold a vote to decide.

Also true. I'm not good enough with graphics to make anything. Except with inventor. I could probably do this on inventor, but I don't have inventor anymore.

On the subject of recycling, here's a page with some tips on where exactly to return some more common items that are toxic when left in a landfill:
