Sarcasm syntax?

Ok so I was thinking, in order to reduce the number of misunderstandings due to not being able to tell whether or not the person is being sarcastic or not, we should place tilda's(~'s) around the sarcastic statements. Ex. ~It's going good~ or similar. What do you think?

It seems that those who partake in sarcasm around here utilize pseudo-BBcode [sarcasm] tags or the rolleyes emoticon more often. Easier for folks to interpret. (Because we'd NEVER make something hard to understand in robotics. )

Never. Never. Never use sarcasm in writing, especially amongst strangers. Just don't do it.

Eh-I actually like to use tildes for a certain kind of emphasis on occasion. Besides, I find that sarcasm tends to lose something when you call attention to it...

I'm not quite sure how to take that. If only there was some sort of method to tell...

Plus, if you use <sarcasm> tags, you have to remember to close them--otherwise they could mess up the rest of the page:D :D

Sarcasm? What is this sarcasm we are speaking of? Engineers being sarcastic? Never happen. Not in a million build seasons. Well, ok - 1/2 million.

This was a sarcasm thread, Jane, not a cynic thread.

Re: Sarcasm syntax?

It doesn't seem like it would be warranted, to me. To call attention to sarcasm is to completely eliminate the point and effect. It's kinda like a joke; if you have to explain it, it's no longer funny. If you have to *tell* someone when you are being sarcastic, there's no point anymore. While I agree that it is sometimes difficult to interpret the tone someone else is trying to convey in a forum, that doesn't mean we should just stop using sarcasm, or eliminate the point of it. But hey, just my two cents.
